DOGS AVAILABLE for foster OR adoption

CALIX- NEED FOSTER OR ADOPTER IMMEDIATELY!

Desperately in need of  a foster or adopter asap for sweet 10 year young Calix.  The foster returned this dog to our sanctuary.  This is not the right home for  him!  Calix is full of love and energy. he wants to play and socialize with people and other dogs.  The dogs at the sanctuary are old, quiet.  They want to keep to themselves.  Calix needs a home!!!   Calix, aka Spooky #A2211880 from the north Central shelter deserves a happy ending!  Did you follow his story on facebook or instagram?  Apparently he was abused and neglected for years by his owners.  A neighbor finally turned him into the shelter on July 25, 2025. Of course, he was not claimed by his owners.  He was understandably nervous when first at the shelter and bit an RVT when they were removing a rope muzzle.  After that, even though he had great behavior notes he was slated for euthanasia.  No one wanted him, but everyone was rooting for him.  Finally,    we were able to rescue him on August 15, 2025. he had a  temporary foster for a couple days because his long term foster was out of town.  The long term foster really loves this dog, but it did not work out with his family.  Poor Calix deserves a family and a home of his own.  ADOPT TODAY!

CIERRA - AVAILABLE

Cierra is a great dog who deserves her happily ever after!   This is Cierra aka india, #A5725090 from the baldwin park shelter. She was owner surrendered to the care center on september 6. Chances of her getting adopted were slim. She had all her cards stacked against her: She is black, a bully breed, and over ten years old.  but we have the best foster who said, let's get her out! So we did. She is happy and sweet and friendly and gets along with people.  . She just has the best smile.I couldn't get enough great pictures of her.I had to share them all. She needs a forever home asap.  She is not great with the other dogs at the foster home she is currently in.  The foster works to keep her separated from the other dogs, but it is not fair to the foster or Cierra. We would love to find her at forever home. Until then, she is in foster, and she will have the best of the rest of her life.If you're looking for a friendly suite, lovable, bully breed dog look no further...adopt today!

CELEBRITY - AVAILABLE

Celebrity is ready to light up your life and be your best friend! We rescued Celebrity, aka Jeff, #a2260529 from the east valley shelter on April, 3, 2026.  This sweet 10 year old mini pin was brought to the shelter as a stray on March 9, 2026.  He has typical senior dog issues like cloudy eyes and dental disease. But his biggest issue was that he had a perienal hernia. We knew no one else was going to take this dog. luckily, we found a foster and we were able to rescue him! He had his surgery to repair the hermia. He is fully recovered and ready for his forever home. here is what the foster had to say about sweet celebrity:

Celebrity is the sweetest little doh that is great with dogs and cats. He’ll take all the love he can get and would love a home where he could spend as much time with his person as possible. He really enjoys his food, treats, and going on walks but keeps them pretty short. He's low maintenance for the most part. He does however need some support with learning to fully pee and poop outside. As well as getting to sleep at night with someone patient who’ll understand he's a senior doggy who may at times wake up for potty breaks.  He's truly a gem. Adopt Celebrity today!  Reach out to meet your new best friend today! Goldenyearsdogsanctuary@yahoo.com  818.636.1522.  Our application is on our website goldenyearsdogsanctuary.com.  celebrity will be attending the critter fair adoption event on May 16 from 10-2 at Hart Park in newhall.

CIRCUS- AVAILABLE

Circus needs a new home!  We rescued this 11 year old  lab/pit/boxer mix on August 9, 2025.  He was in a great foster home.  The foster even adopted him last December. However, when the adopter moved in with her significant other who had cats....things did not work out.  Circus has a high prey drive and he was returned to us on May 20, 2026.  We did have a great foster step up to foster him while we search for his forever home.  Circus is a really great dog!  Here is what his foster has to say about him:  Circus is a distinguished old man with the comedic spirit of a puppy.  He is housebroken and walks on the leash nicely. He knows sit, stay, shake, lie down,  and loves playing with other dogs. He has prey drive with cats so cannot be homed with feline friends. He loves all people and gives excellent lean-in hugs and lie-down cuddles! Will wear any hat you put on his head—as long as it’s fashionable. He is silly, easy, needs at least one good walk a day and otherwise gets a few spurts to play with toys but mostly just lies around and snoozes.  he is on a salmon diet, as he is allergic to chicken.  In our home, he seemed to have  seasonal allergies and Apoquel works well for him—he gobbles it up easily. Cytopoint shots also work but he prefers to avoid the vet if possible and has some fear aggression there. When he was left alone, we kept a cone on him so he could not lick or nibble open any itchy spots.

CHANCELLOR - AVAILABLE

Chancellor needs a home ASAP!!!  He is a great dog!  We rescued him from the Castaic shelter last december. He has been in foster but the foster no longer want to help us out and foster.  We have until April 1, 2026 to get him a home.  here is his backstory.  On December 27, 2025, we rescued Michael, #A5743192 from the castaic shelter. Michael is a 10-year-old neutered male pit mix that was brought to the shelters as a stray on December 8. He had a microchip. The shelter reached out to his owners and they didn't want him back! While waiting for someone to choose him, he developed an upper respiratory infection. It became critical in a get him out as soon as possible. The wonderful volunteers  networked for a foster, knowing we could pull him. Luckily a wonderful couple stepped up and said they would take him So today we were able to get michael out. We're continuing the medication that he was on at the shelter and he will see our vet next week.He also has a bleeding growth on his leg which was removed in February, 2026. he is ready for his forever home now!  he is a sweet, loving dog. When we first rescued him, he was so happy, he snuggled right into bed after dinner.  we're so glad to give him the best of the rest of his life.

CAPTIVATING- IMMEDIATE NEED FOR FOSTER!

Meet  captivating!  This sweet, super people friendly 10-year-old chihuahua, dachshund terrier mix found herself at the shelter on January 5, 2026, when her owner was arrested. The owner had four dogs. When she got out of jail, she took the other three and said this one was ugly and didn't want her. And so poor fortune #a2250750 sat waiting for a home.  her deadline was pending for euthanasia, and we couldn't let her die in the shelter. We did find a temporary foster and we pulled her on March 13. We named her captivating, because she is not ugly and we want everyone to know! However, we need to get her into a forever home as soon as possible, this dog is dog aggressive and must be the only dog in the home. There are other dogs at her current foster home. It is not ideal for her, the other dogs, or the foster.  Please share and help us get her into a forever foster home as soon as possible. Our veterinarian said her eye is not a tumor and is not bothering her.  She did have two tumors, however, on her back and leg which we did remove.  Come join our team and foster today. There's no better experience than getting an old senior pet that's been dumped at the shelter out and into a forever home, we provide all the medical. You just give them a bed a home, some food and love him or her for the rest of their life

CHACHKI- AVAILABLE

CLAUDIA - AVAILABLE

Is this not the cutest little dog!? This is mitzvah, #a2253462 now Chachki, ( and yes, it can be spelled without the t) (its Yiddish for little trinket) from the west valley shelter. This precious 15-year-old Chihuahua was owner surrendered on January 26, 2026. After having him for 14 years, they were moving out of the country and dumped him at the shelter. A volunteer reached out to us and asked if we could rescue this dog, we had a foster ready, so of course we saved him. He saw the veterinarian today and will go to his foster home tomorrow. We're so glad we can give this little senior dog the best of the rest of his life . He is available for adoption!.

CONQUER- NEEDS IMMEDIATE FOSTER!

Conquer, the comeback kid, needs a home asap! He is a lovable dog, but also special needs, so he needs a wondercul person to foster or adopt him. The rescue covers his mecical care! Here is what his foster has to say about him: Conquer is a 12 year old, 30lb Pitbull/Shar-Pei mix who truly lives up to his name. Having survived a past of severe neglect, he is now a social, intelligent, and communicative gentleman looking for a home to live the best of the rest of his life.  When we rescued Conquer in October 2025, he was dangerously underweight and suffering from severe skin irritation. Today, his transformation is nothing short of miraculous. While he has very few teeth left from his journey, he has gained a velvety, soft coat and a "dinner prance" that will melt your heart. Conquer is a true extrovert! He currently lives with other digs, but the gang do not always get along. He wants to greet everyone he passes, though he can be a bit of a "puller" and a "vocalist" on the leash because he’s just so excited to say hello! Conquer is a "mischievous genius" who needs to stay engaged. If he isn't given a task, he will find his own "projects"—like raiding the trash or playing keep-away with items from the table. He has mastered "Touch," is working on "Shake," and thrives with clicker training and durable puzzle toys. Because of his history of severe allergies and neglect, Conquer has developed some habits that require a little extra management: He thrives on a specific diet, daily Apoquel, and weekly medicated baths (where he’ll sweetly rest his head on your leg). To prevent him from obsessively chewing/licking his groin area (a habit from his days of discomfort), Conquer wears male doggie diapers (belly bands) while indoors. He handles his "outfits" like a pro, and it's a small trade-off for such a wonderful companion.  Conquer is a loyal, hilarious survivor. He isn't a "Velcro dog," but he is a devoted companion who isn't afraid to "use his words" to tell you how he’s feeling. If you have a heart for seniors and a love for a good success story, the "Comeback Kid" is ready to prance into your forever home.  Email for more info goldenyearsdogsanctuary@yahoo.com

CUERVO- AVAILABLE

Meet Cuervo, aka rocky #a5612001 . We rescued him from the Downey shelter on April 22, 2024. He came to the shelter on March 9, 2024 as an owner surrender. He did well in his behavior assessments and went to a foster home . Our foster said she could only keep him for 4 months, but fostered him for 1.5 years!  In that time we never found an adopter.  Cuervo is still waiting for his forever home! Cuervo is 12 years old and healthy. he has a puppy like personality enjoys playing with toys and going on walks. He was in an 8 week board and train program.  He was the best student.  No one stepped up to foster or adopt him after his training was over, so he is back at our sanctuary.  He gets along with all the dogs and is friendly with everyone!  The trainer who worked with him fell in love with him.  You will too!  come meet him and adopt  today!

CALLAHAN- NEEDS FOSTER OR ADOPTER

URGENT NEED FOR A FOSTER OR ADOPTER BY APRIL 3, 2026!!   Someone please help! .

On January 12, 2026, we rescued Rocky,  #a4871718, now Callahan, from the Downey shelter. He is the 400th dog we have rescued since the inception of Golden years Dog Sanctuary in September of 2017!  Rocky. Now, Callahan, was owner surrendered to the downy shelter on November 25, 2025. He was very friendly with people. He had a good behavior assessment. And yet nobody wanted him. His 72 hour notice came and went. His deadline for euthanasia came and went. A networker reached out to us with a foster. We reached out to the shelter saying we could pull the dog, and then the foster backed out.  We thought all hope was lost. But then the networker found a second foster, and when I reached out to the shelter days later, Rocky was still there. So we made a plan, and he was rescued!  He went to his foster home in San diego the next day.  Callahan is doing well in his foster home.  The first day, he wanted to hump the dogs, but was easily corrected and has not done that behavior since.  The foster is leaving the state and cannot take callahan with her.

CHAMELEON- AVAILABLE!

Chameleon is a super sweet weimaraner/pointer mix.  He was listed as 10 years old.  The foster says he has lots of energy for a 10 year old dog!  our vet said he could be anywhere between 8-11 years old.   he is in a temporary foster and waiting for his forever home!  he loves to go on walks and be a couch potato.  here is his backstory: On March 12, 2026, a networker reached out asking if we could rescue Otis, #26-07901 from the seaaca shelter. His deadline already passed. She had someone who would foster. I didn't think it could be done.  The foster submitted her application and by 9 o'clock in the morning, I had a signed foster agreement and emailed the shelter, saying that we will pull the dog.  We rescued him on March 13, 2026. Otis, now Chameleon, is in his foster home. We were told by the networker, he was hospice.  This dog is not a hospice. he is also not a pitbull.  He is a Weimaraner and pointer mix.  He is 9-11 years of age.  He has a lot of life in him. He is skinny, but has energy and an appetite.  He's very happy and we're glad to give him the best the rest of his life.   Unfortunately, the foster has two dogs who are possessive of her. She will not introduce Chameleon to her dogs.  He is now in foster with the neighbor. The neighbor loves him, but can't really care of the dog,  so the original foster is. It works for now, but is not a permanent solution.   we really want to get him into a solid forever home asap.

COMPLICATED- NEEDS FOSTER ASAP!

CHUG- AVAILABLE FOR FOSTER OR ADOPT!

We were not planning on saving another life on May 28, 2026, but who am to say no when death is on the line.  So meet Complicated, aka nugget. Nugget, #a2273170 is a 10 year old Australian shepherd who was brought to the west valley shelter as a stray on may 16, 2026. He had a large mass on his face and smaller masses on his chest and paw. He quickly came shelter volunteer favorite, yet no one wanted to adopt him. He had a deadline for last week. We asked for an extension, hoping that we would find a foster. She granted the extension that we have not been able to find a foster. For whatever reason, the veterinarian at the shelter put a drain in his tumor. Today, he shelter veterinarian felt that he was suffering and wanted to euthanize him. A volunteer reached out to ask. If we could please help him. My veterinarian was able to put him in an appointment today. So I said we would take him even though we didn't have a plan, which I never do. But the universe was looking out for him as someone who previously submitted an application called and said they they could temporarily foster a dog for two weeks. We do need to find a forever foster asap. Our veterinarian did blood work and a needle aspiration on the tumor.  hopefully we'll have more answers about his health in a few days. In the meantime, he  is a very sweet, calm dog. he loves going on walks and loves being with people. Save a life and foster today . here is his freedom walk!
