THE MAGIC OF SURGERY! Helping senior dogs

Croissant was owner surrendered to the shelter on March 18, 2025 and set to be euthanized if no one came for her. So  we rescued her!  She had surgery on March 26, 2025.

Sweet 12 year old Carmine could not poop with a perineal hernia!  Surgery was the only option to help him. We rescued him on February 13, 2025.  He had his surgery on February 20, 2025.

Carmine's stitches have since been removed. he is healthy and ready for his forever home!

Challenge is a 9 year old super sweet dog that was brought to the shelter on February 5, 2025 with a huge ulcerated mass. we rescued her on February 7, 2025 and immediately took her to the veterinarian for an exam.  blood work revealed she was sick.  She went on antibiotics for two weeks.  When she was healthy enough, she had surgery.

Caution is the sweetest little old dog who had several large masses on her belly and a bleeding mass on her elbow. We rescued her on September 20, 2024.   her bloodwork was good and we had her surgery on September 24, 2024

Caution is much happier and more comfortable without all those extra skin tags and bleeding tumors!

Carnation a 12 year old husky, was brought to the Downey shelter as a stray on September 27, 2023 with a cherry eye and cropped ears.  The cost of her surgery to remove her cancerous eye and spay her was covered thanks to a generous grant from the the Marion and Richard Graham Foundation

CARLOTA- BEFORE

Carlota, aka Peaches fro mthe North Central Shelter was found as a stray onJanuary 8, 2024.  She had a huge tumor on her neck. We rescued her on January 27, 2024. Unfortunately, the tumor was cancerous.  It has been removed, but her prognosis is guarded.  She will have the best of the rest of her life with her amazing foster.

Cyrus had his surgery on May 4, 2023 to remove the almost 3 pound tumor!

Cyrus, AKA Bubba was an owner surrender at the West Valley Shelter at the age of 13!

Cassia's growth was not cancer!  it was similar to proud flesh that grew out of control. her growth was removed on April 5, 2023

Cassia, aka Aurora from the harbor Shelter, was only in the shelter for 3 days.  They wanted to PTS because of this bleeding growth.  We pulled her March 17, 2023.

We rescued him on march 14, 2023. It only took us about two hours to shave off all his mats, trim his nails, and reveal the beautiful dog underneath!

Charleston Chew, aka Tiger is a 15 year old Maltese/Lhasa Apso Mix  from the Downey Shelter, who was owner surrendered on March 4, 2023. This is the condition he was in.

The Faces of 2022. We saved 55 dogs in 2022, We have over 20 in foster and 21 were adopted into their forever homes!

    BARK IN THE PARK

    Join us for a fun day at Castaic Lake.  It is the anual bark in the park event on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 9-3. There is a 3k and a 5K walk, not a race.  Food vendors, dog vendors, demonstration, events you can enter with your dog!  We are one  of the benefiting non-profit organizations.  Come join us!  BARK IN THE PARK

    Finally!  It has been two years since we have been able to have an open house.  We hope you can make it!  As always,  we will have a raffle, good food, great dogs and good times!  Come meet our senior residents as well as the adoptable dogs!  JUNE 11 from 1-4pm.  TELL YOUR FRIENDS!

    FOSTERING PROGRAM IS BOOMING!

    Do you want help a senior dog?  Consider fostering for us!   We can help more dogs through fostering.  We take care of the medical and you provide a senior dog with a loving home and a warm bed.  We can find you the right match as there is no shortage of senior dogs in the shelters looking for the best of the rest of their life!

    What's New At Golden Years Dog Sanctuary

    We saved a record twenty eight dogs this year!   Of these, five are currently in foster and sixteen have been adopted out. The other eight are residents at Golden Years Dog Sanctuary.  See the faces of those dogs you helped us save this year in the gallery above.

    SEPTEMBER 2019


    In September we adopted both Cow and Captain Jack.  Both had large tumors that inhibited their movement. Thanks to generous donors we were able to do the surgeries to remove the tumors.  And many thanks to Dr Nahmi Jones and Blue Cross Pet Hospital for taking amazing care of our senior dogs!


    APRIL 2019


    Thank you everyone who attended our fundraiser at Goldspirit Farm on April 28th.  It was a huge success. We raised over $3000 to help care for our senior dogs!


    Tyler Anderson presented Golden Years Dog Sanctuary with a check for $1000. That is what he raised when he ran the Boston Marathon!
