Celosia, aka Rosie, was caught on the streets and brought to the West Valley shelter on March 11, 2024. She had a huge mass and was put on a medical alert almost immediately. Of course, no one came for her and no rescue stepped up. We did! She is a candidate for the Star program which means that the City of Los Angeles will pay for a portion of her surgery and medical costs for the first few weeks of treatment. Her initial blood work was not great, but after further diagnostics, the vet was ready to do her surgery. her mass has been removed, she was spayed, and now she is ready for a forever home! Celosia hit the jackpot and found a wonderful home where she had a younger brother. The two of them hit it off and are enjoying life together! She was adopted on October 5, 2024. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, celosia has snapped at the adopter's young daughter on two separate occasions. We must find Celosia a new home asap. Please help us and foster or adopt today!
Meet Conductor, loving called "Ducky" aka Zeus, #a1762426 from the West Valley shelter. He is a very sweet 9-year-old German Shepherd that was owner surrendered in march when his family was moving. it took a village, but we got him out on April 25, 2024. He was originally in a foster home, but the home did not have an enclosed yard and he needed more space to move around. We took him back at the sanctuary and now we are looking for a forever home for him. he gets along with all the dogs and is very playful. He loves his toys and his walks. He also loves being with people! he would do great in a home with another dog and/or a family that is around a lot. he definitely needs a yard! Here is what his wonderful foster mom had to say: Shy and scared at first, he has grown to become a playful friend to people and dogs alike. He's proven to be great on a leash and a genius at heeling, sitting and lying down. He is working at "staying," as he still does not like to be away from his people for too long. He tolerates being inside at home alone without fussing, but would probably prefer company of a human or a dog sibling to play with to pass the time. His foster Mom is committed to working with this gentle giant until he can find his forever family. He needs a home asap. When he is adopted, we can save more senior dogs from the shelter! VIDEO
Meet Cuervo, aka rocky #a5612001 . We rescued him from the Downy shelter on April 22, 2024. He came to the shelter on March 9th as an owner surrender. He did well in his behavior assessments and is currently in Foster . Our foster is only willing to keep him for 4 months we will need to find a forever foster or adopt him within that time. Cuervo is 10 years old and seems relatively healthy. he has a puppy like personality enjoys playing with toys and going on walks. We urgently need a foster or adopter for this dog. We will provide training, if needed, as the foster says he is now leash aggressive and does not get along with other dogs.
It took a village, but we did it!!! In the 11th hour, we pulled it off and rescued Colorado, #a2165659, now Cutter. 11 year old Cutter found himself at the shelter on October 1, 2024 when his person ended up in jail. He was a volunteer favorite, yet no one adopted him. His original deadline was Wednesday. We begged for an extension and was granted a deadline for one day. We still had no foster. Then, someone who fostered for us said they would take him.yeah! Only, her dog didn't like Cutter. So now....he is safe but he needs a home.He is good with other dogs. He wants to play with dogs. Having at a senior dog sanctuary is no place for a playful dog. We need a home for him ASAP! So foster or adopt today!check out his FREEDOM VIDEO!
AVAILABLE and ready for her forever home! The current foster can not provide her with the time and home she needs. he can hold onto her until we find her a home, but we really need to find her a home asap. Christmas is a ten year old spayed female staffordshire terrier. She is a great dog. She would benefit from being in a home where someone works from home or there is another dog. She is very friendly with dogs and loves company. She is not aggressive. In fact, her foster said that one two separate occasions, dogs have tried to attack her and she does not fight back. We should have named this dog continuation because we kept having to postpone our pull date for her! This is sweet lady bug, now Christmas. She arrived in the shelter on January 2nd and they immediately put out a deadline for her to be euthanized. we emailed and said this is ridiculous, and asked for time to find a foster. they did! And it took us 3 weeks. It took us that long but finally we found a wonderful couple who are willing to take ladybug, now Christmas, into their home. this is her picture on her Freedom ride. look how happy she is. we are so glad to offer her the best of the rest of her life
CLYDE IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD! HE IS NOT A SENIOR! When we rescued him, the shelter said he was 11 years old. Our veterinarian said he is only five....going on 3! he has a great personality and loves to play and cuddle. On July 9, 2024, we has the pleasure of saving keg, #a2116179, now clyde. Clyde was brought to the shelter back in November of 2023! He was grouchy with shelter staff until he was neutered. He was always a delight with volunteers. Of course, because he is a big goofy senior pitbull, he was passed over again and again and again. He didn't have an exit date but we knew it was looming overhead. A volunteer was networking him and someone stepped up to say they could foster. so of course we jumped at the opportunity to save another life! Unfortunately, the foster situation did not work out, to no fault of Clyde. Clyde has been a great house guest. He loves his little kiddie pool and going on walks. He has two small dog friends and they get along great. We need a forever home for Clyde asap! Clyde was recently on SCVTV! Check out his video here! VIDEO WALKING PLAYING IN WATER Video of him rolling around!
This super happy, smiling dog is pilot,#a5619739. He is now Concord ( see what we did there?). He is a sweet amazing 10-year-old staffy that we rescued from the Baldwin Park shelter. He came into the shelter in April and he had some sort of wound on his leg, which was treated by their staff. he is a staff and volunteer favorite. we wanted to pull him but we couldn't find anyone to foster him. We finally found a Foster and then, literally in the 11th hour, the Foster couldn't take the dog. We happened to get one of our dogs into foster and we were able to take him. Someone did step up to foster temporarily. We do need to find him a forever home. he is simply the best! he is loving, sweet, gets along with all dogs, is housebroken...what more could you ask for! adopt today!
This happy dog is Johnny, #a5608985, now comanche. Comanche was brought to the Downey shelter as a stray on February 19, 2024. They think he is about 10 years old. No one claimed him and no one wanted to adopt him. Comanche was given a deadline on Saturday, April 6, 2024. We asked the shelter for an extension since someone was interested in fostering. We were able to save him on April 9, 2024. He's super sweet and friendly and we are so glad that we could give him the best of the rest of his life. Unfortunately, it did work out at the foster's home. he needs a home with a yard. He is currently at the sanctuary, but we need to find him a foster or adopter asap! he gets along with all the dogs. He loves to play with kongs and tennis balls. He is just a great dog who deserves his own family! Adopt today!
There really is no such thing as a day off in the rescue world. The day after we rescued one dog, we had to scramble to save another! Cheerio, aka Buddy from the South LA Shelter had a deadline on May 24, 2024, and he needed out! He came to the shelter in the end of October of 2023. since the shelters are full and they had no space, he spent the last 7 months in a crate in the hallway. The dogs in the city of LA shetlers do not get out every day, so can you imagine him living in that little crate. We gave him an extra large be and a wonderful foster. On the day he was scheduled to go to the veterinarian for his bloodwork, he started having bloody diarrhea and vomit. We were worried he had a major medical issue and was not going to make it. Not the case! His condition was treatable! However, his foster was not able to provid ethe medical care he needed, so now Cheerio has a new foster! The fosters love him and adopted him. We are so glad cheerio has a great happy ending and will have the best of the rest of his life.
This poor dog needed a miracle. So glad we could give it to him! Meet Cortez, aka Hugger #a2154731 from the South LA shelter. He was brought to the shelter on July 29, 2024 as a stray. He was in horrible condition. His ears were filthy, hie eyes were goopy, his coat was matted with scabs, his teeth were in dire need of a dental and tooth extraction, and he had a large testicular tumor. He was taken to a private vet because he had a laceration on his paw. They also shaved him. We rescued him on August 11, 2024 as soon as we had a foster secure. Of course, once out of the shelter, he developed a URI. We treated his URI and then he was cleared for surgery on September 3, 2024. He had several teeth removed as well a scrotal ablation. His temporary foster fell in love with him and adopted him on October 8, 2024. We are so happy he will have the best of the rest of his life!
Her initial blood work was not great, but after further diagnostics, the vet w ready to do hre surgery. her mass has been removed, she was spayed, and now she is ready for a forever home! Celosia hit the jackpot and found a wonderful home where she will have a younger brother. The two of them hit it off and are enjoying life together! Adopted October 5, 2024
If you want a sweet, goofy, lovable, friendly, 6 year old blue nosed pit...look no further than Cobalt! Cobalt, aka Blue from the North Central Shelter, was found on freeway on March 23, 2023. he spent over ONE YEAR in the shelter! he was set to be euthanized on April 2, 2024. at the last minute, someone reached out to us about fostering a cat and agreed to foster Blue short term so we could save him. She returned him to the sanctuary due to no fault of his own. While he gets along great with all the dogs, a senior dog sanctuary is no place for a medium energy young dog! He had his tumors removed. He is great with other dogs and has been getting obedience training so he now walks so much better on the leash! he is housebroken and very friendly with people and dogs. he is a wonderful dog and will be someone's best friend. Please adopt today! Cobalt deserves a great life; we are here to make sure he gets it. You can help! Check out his videos! Finally, a wonderful couple adopted him September 28, 2024!
We just fell in love with this dog when the shelter sent out the first medical plea. We had to save him! This is Chimaera, aka Sharky from the North Central shelter. He is an 11 year old staffie that was brought to the shelter on May 3 2024, with a little dog after their owner had a stroke and could no longer care for them. The little dog was adopted, but sharky sat. We posted several times asking for a foster. Finally, someone stepped up to foster. His foster is a wonderful woman who is giving sharky a great life! His foster loved him so much that she adopted him!
Meet Cielo, formerly known as Kai. She is a 14 year old dog that was owner surrendered to the Downey Shelter on May 5, 2024. She did not have any significant health or behavior issues. She was simply returned for the sake of being old. Since the shelters are overwhelmed with dogs, there was no way she would have much time. We saw her second plea and reached out the shetler saying we wanted to find a foster. A wonderful woman applied to foster a different dog for us which had a foster. We asked if she would take Kai, now Cielo, and she said yes! When Cielo was brought to her new home, she immediately found this chair. While she felt at home right away, one of the foster's own dogs hated her. After giving the foster's dog time and a chance to accept a new dog to the pack, we decided it was not a good place for cielo. So she was brought back to the sanctuary. At first she was scared of the dogs, but in time she realized not all dogs want to hurt her! She is just such a great dog! We found a nice couple who spend 6 months of the year at the beach! they have another dog. Cielo became quick friends with their dog. After a short foster period, they adopted her!
Chevy is simply the kindest sweetest most loving dog. He must have had a difficult life. he didn't understand a bed. He was afrid to go in his foster's home. nAnd when he did, he was so content to have his own squisjhy bed a a home. Chevy formerly known as 24-10107 and pappy and baxter on social media, was brought to the SEAACA shelter on April 30, 2024 as a stray. They estimated his age tobe 12 years old. they stated he had difficulty walking and getting up from a lying position. perhaps he lived in a kennel or on a chain without exercise. Staff walked him and he became stronger. By the time we got him, he could walk fine, albeit he still has weakness in his hind end. But he walk and skip! He was a shelter favorite so they kept extending his date for euthanasia. The shelter reached out to us and asked if we could save him. We posted a plea for a foster and found one! Now he will have the best of the rest of his life with love, comfortable beds and a loving, safe home! All dogs should be this lucky!
Carnation is a 13 year old siberian husky who we rescued from the Downey Shelter on October 16, 2023. She came to the shelter as a 12 year old stray. She is the sweetest, most people friendly dog. She gives licks and just wants to be with you. Despite her appearance, she is super friendly with people. When she first arrived she was leary of dogs and "greeted" them with a growl and a jump, if given the chance. Since she didn't get along with the other dogs, we had to keep her separate. She had surgery to remove her tumor on her eye and spay her. After her recovery, we started introducing her to all the dogs at the sanctuary. Ends up she is very friendly with them! She still growls if a dog bumps into her blind side, but there is no aggression! She goes on walks every day with other dogs and now she is great with other dogs! Recently Carnation was on SCVTV. here is her 5 minutes of fame! SCVTV
Finally, a wonderful couple from Long beach drove up to meet her. They loved her! They took her home s a foster to adopt. It didn't take long for her to win their hearts. Carnation has a forever home for the holidays!
This scared, sweet little 11 YEAR OLD dog was brought to the West Valley shelter as a "stray" on November 5, 2023. Dalia, now Camelia, has the typical cataract, stiff gait, skin abnormalities and was scheduled to be euthanized. We could not let that happen! We found a foster and saved her on November 21, 2023. She relaxed up once she was in a home and we are happy to give her the love and security she needs to have the best of the rest of her life. We are so excited the foster decided to adopt her and give Camelia a forever home!
Georgina, now Cuttlefish, was brought to the Downey ACC as stray dog on October 26, 2023. This little terrier or schnauzer mix, they labeled as a poodle mix, was very fearful and scared. She wouldn't move in her kennel. We had to get her out! We have had some amazing people step up to foster the little dogs lately, so cuttlefish was saved on December 7, 2023. We are giving her time to settle into her new foster home and realize she is safe before we take her to the vet. She doesn't have any major medical issues. In time, she will see she is safe, loved and will have the best of the rest of her life! oF course, her fosters fell in love and are adopting her to give her a forever home!
We are so happy to report that Charisma hit the jackpot and was adopted on June 17, 2024! This little shortstack staffie is just the sweetest thing! She is only 7 and we thought she was a hospice dog. She came to the Carson Shelter on September 26, 2023. She had blood in her urine. They did x rays and nothing was conclusive, except that she most likely has bladder cancer. Our veterinarian determined that she had a resistant strain of infection. We treated her with antibiotics and she is better! She is the kindest, sweetest dog! she gets along with other dogs. She loves to go on walks. She is great with people! We are so glad we could save her and we intend to make every day the best day of her life! We would love to see her in a forever home! That will give us space to save more senior hospice dogs. here is her clip from SCV TV community corner VIDEO
So happy to report that Cyrano found his forever home! he was adopted on April 18, 2024 by a wonderful gentleman who is taking on hikes by the stream and giving him a wonderful home! This is Cyrano, we rescued him from the Castaic shelter last July. He has been in a foster home with two other dogs. His foster mom said he is the best dog she has ever had. however his foster mother is elderly and her health is declining. She can no longer take care of him. Recently, there was an altercation with Cyrano and the other dog and now she's worried about keeping him. we urgently need to find him another home. we can't take him back here as we are full and he is very horse aggressive. That doesn't work on horse farm. If we can't find him a home in the next few days we're going to need to send him to a boarding facility which takes funds we could use for medical. Networking him takes our time away from helping those in the shelter. So come help us and save two dogs. give cyano a home and give us the time we need to be able to save other dogs in the shelters. he's great with female dogs and he's wonderful with people.
Some of these dogs just pull at your heartstrings. Carter, aka Domino from the Palmdale ACC, was one of those nice dogs scheduled to be euthanized by the shelter. We scrambled to find someone to foster to adopt Carter, before it was too late. Carter was actually first brought to the Castaic ACC on August 3, 2021 as a stray dog. He was later transferred to Palmdale in hopes of him getting adopted. However, he was losing weight and stressed at the shelter. No one wanted him. He lost 17 pounds in three months and despite pleas from our sanctuary and volunteers of the shelter, no additional medical care was given. Our vet was worried he may have diabetes, but turns out his blood work came back looking great. What he did have was Guardia. He was given the proper medicine and is now doing better and gaining weight! Carter gets along with large dogs, but should not be a in a home with small dogs or cats. He is the biggest love with people and a total goofball. After 2.5 years, his foster has adopted Carter. he is not going anywhere! he loves his home!
There is a prejudice against black dogs, pitbulls and senior dogs. So what happens when you are all three? you most likely get euthanized at the shetler. But not for Bingo, now Carbon! Bingo and another dog in her home were owner surrendered on October 5, 2023 at the east valley shelter. Despite Carbon being very friendly with people and other dogs, she was overlooked and ignored. Shelter staff asked if we could save her life and rescue her. We had a space and so to honor cavalier, we pulled another black dog! Carbon is 10 years young. She is very sweet and we are so glad to give her the best of the rest of her life! She hit the jackpot when one of our repeat fosters said he wanted to give her a forever home. She is so happy and now has a great home with Capri! And of course, he adopted them both!
We do have a thing for the gray staffies! They are the nicest dogs! And this poor thing, needed saving. Capri, simply known as 24-06388 was dumped at the SEAACA shelter on December 26, 2023 , with large ulcerated mammary tumors. Of course, the high kill shelter wanted her euthanized, so we saved her! Capri was clearly only ever used for breeding. She is so scared, she shakes. She is friendly with all the dogs and people, but does not yet understand we are her friends and that no harm will ever come her way again. She had her surgery to remove her tumor and she was spayed. She went to an amazing foster home to live with Calliope! Calliope, unfortunately passed away, So her foster got her a new friend, Carbon. The two love each other and the foster has adopted them both! They have the best home and will have the best of the rest of their life! She is going to love it!
Crankshaft, aka Droolius Ceasar from the Carson ACC spent 100 days in the shelter! He is a 10-year-old neutered male staffie that came to the shelter as a stray. He was a staff and volunteer favorite. And yet, no one wanted to adopt him! So, he was going to die! We scrambled to find a foster and rescued him from certain death on September 9, 2023. Unfortunately, the foster offer fell through at no fault of crankshaft. Crankshaft was at our sanctuary where he had to be separated because he seemed to be male dog aggressive. We hated that for him! On January 31, 2024, we found a great foster for him. She had no other dogs and loves the bully breed. Of course, she fell in love with him, and he with er, so they made it official. She adopted him on July 24, 2024!
Chess, aka Prince from the Baldwin ACC was owner surrendered on October 20, 2023 because the owner was moving. Chess is a very sweet dog that no one wanted. He looks like a jack russell terrier on stilts; we think he is JRT and some sort of pit bull mix, and all heart. We were notified the night before he was set to be euthanized by a volunteer at the shelter. Could we save him, she asked. It just so happened that we had a foster lined up for one of our dogs. She met Chess and fell in love. Chess is 10 years old, very smart, well mannered and excited to be in a home. Of course, our foster adopted him!
Clam, aka Oso, is a wonderful 11 year old shepherd mix that was owner surrendered at the North Central Shelter on December 7, 2023. He was losing weight at the shelter and no coping well. They also said he wanted to race out of his cage or playgroup areas. He just wanted to go to his forever home. We found that for him! We rescued him on May 1, 2024. We found a wonderful foster and he is enjoying his freedom.
How could anyone give up this dog? Creamy, aka Francis from the North Central shelter is the nicest dog! she was brought in as a stray on April 23, 2024. There was no interest in her! our board member spotted her and networked for a foster! We found one and couldn't wait to spring her from the shelter. We rescued her on May 15, 2024. She is housebroken, healthy, and ten years old going on six! She does need a dental and we are taking care of that in August. The foster, of course, is smitten with her and is giving her a forever home!
SEAACA has gone mad, issuing 24 hour deadlines on so many healthy loving dogs! Caldwell, formerly, Emmett, was one of those dogs. He is a super sweet, gentle 10 year old tri-colored dachshund that was set to die because they said he had a URI and was weak in his hind end. He also has some odd scarring on his abdomen as if he had a leash, wire or some other material tied so tightly on him for a long period of time that he has a scar around his entire torso. What torture that must have been! Thankfully, someone reached out and said they wanted to foster him. So of course, we rallied help, got him pulled on February 16, 2022, and into a temporary foster as the permanent foster is in Temecula. As always, our veterinarian checked him out, did a chiropractic adjustment and give him the thumbs up on his health. Of course, he has senior issues, don't they all. But we are excited for this next chapter where he will only know love! his forever foster adopted Caldwell on November 12, 2024.
We are so thrilled that Chubby's foster has adopted him after fostering him for over a year! He is a super sweet 12 year old neutered English bulldog that found himself at the Castaic ACC after his owner was hospitalized on September 25, 2022. We rescued him on October 28, 2022. He was overweight and under muscled, but is doing much better now that he is in a home. He has a thyroid condition which we are treating . At first, our foster could only take care of him short term. however, no one stepped to help and the foster fell in love! Chubby deserves to spend the rest of his days on a bed at the feet of someone he adores and who will adore him and now he has that!
What can we do when the shelter wants to euthanize a dog for medical issues? why, we plea for a foster and don't stop until one is found! Such was the case for Vader, now chef, from the castaic acc. Chef was adopted from the shelter as a puppy and returned on July 31, 2023, as an 8 year old adult dog for no plausible reason. In the shelter, he was given 4 different antibiotics to help him with his URI and kennel cough. This gave him Gi issues so they wanted to PTS. Now, he is in a temporary foster home while he gets better. once healed, we will need a forever home for this amazing shepherd/hound mix of a dog! Chef hit the jackpot! he was adopted by a wonderful person who has fostered and adopted dogs from us in the past! His foster family was sad to see him go because they loved him so much, but they are so happy he has the best forever home. Chef will now has a younger brother who adored him and his own pug!
Guess who found her forever home? Sweet, shy Cadbury. This dog was set to die at the south LA shelter. There was not one post on her. Cadbury, aka Boba, was brought into the shelter as a stray on February 25, 2023. they estimated her age at 12 years and in less than a month at the shelter, she was going to die. So of course, we had to save her. To honor our precious Candy who died on 3-12-2023, we named her Cadbury, She is a very calm dog who keeps to herself but is enjoying her freedom. We felt she was not moving around enough. she loved her walks without the other dogs so we thought a foster hoe with less dogs would do her good. She went to a loving home where she gained two little furry brothers! her fosters fell in love with her and of course, are giving her a forever home!
Clink was owner surrendered to the Downey shelter on August 16, 2023 stating they had no time to care for him. He is a good 13 year old shepherd with medium energy, a great personality and no major medical issues. And yet, no one wanted him and he sat. A month later the shelter was ready to euthanize him for being old, black, and unwanted, even though he was adoptable. We found a foster and saved him on September 21, 2023. he is so happy in his forever home and the fosters adore him. Win-win!
Clay had the saddest intake photo ever. He was posted on social media with two different names as according to SEAACA, the shetler he was at, he was simply 24-03748. he arrived at the shelter on September 28, 2023 as as tray. No one wanted him. We did, but we needed space, as is always our constraint. So, it is sad when we lose a dog, but it is also great news, as it meant we could save Clay. We rescued him on October 28, 2023. He is so happy here at the sanctuary. he loves to run around and he has the funniest dance. A nice couple were looking for a friend for their sharpei-pit mix who is dog selective. Well, she fell in love with Clay and that was that! Clay was adopted and now living his best life in Arizona! Our sweet clay died in May of 2024.
Just look at that face! he has a great personality to match. Meet Chief, aka King from the Castaic Shelter. he was owner surrendered in September of 2023. he wa adopted and brought back the next day for fighting with little dog in the household. He was brought back to the shelter and made "rescue only" for that incident. Rescue only dogs have a higher chance of getting killed than adopted. But chief lucked out! A wonderful woman said she wanted to give Chief a forever home and so we happily pulled him to give him the best of the rest of his life!
Chopstix, formerly known as chicharron from the Carson shelter, was brought in as a stray on June 20, 2023. he had multiple medical issues included a cherry eye and an ulcerated mass on one of his testicles. Luckily, the shelter neutered him and removed the mass. they also did surgery on his cherry eye. While his eye is still not looking normal, he is in much better health. Even after that, no one wanted to adopt him and he was set for euthanasia on September 2, 2023. We found an amazing foster who drove down to get the dog, and he was saved on September 3, 2023. Chopstix is super sweet and loving. We are so glad to give him the best of the rest of his life. Of course, his foster family loves him and decided to adopt him to give him a forever home.
Another black, senior, pit bull mix dumped at the shelter. Her odds for getting out were slim. Lucky for her, she had a crew of volunteers networking her. Meet Clarabelle, aka penny from the Castaic shelter. She was owner surrendered on October 28, 2023. No one wanted her and so the shelter slated her to be killed on January 5, 2024. So we saved her instead! A wonderful couple stepped up to foster, answering the pleas of the shelter volunteers. networking saves lives. Fostering saves lives! This may have been our quickest foster to adoption ever. Clarabelle's foster family had her less than three weeks when they knew they wanted to have her forever and be her forever home.
Chap, aka Ojiisan is a 10 year old german shepherd that was brought into the Carson shelter as a stray on January 5, 2024.. He is very sweet and also very afraid. He came to the shelter with a bad flea infestation and missing hair on his coat. He was treated at the shelter and did improve with his health. When staff would leash him, he would bite the leash and then alligator roll. he would not walk/. They would have to carry him back to his kennel. he was not aggressive with dogs, but very afraid of them. Due to his fear, he was made rescue only. Pleas were sent out and no one wanted him. His 72 hour plea was issued and it became urgent to get him out. . someone reached out to us and asked to help him. We rescued him on February 19, 2024. The shelter gave her a deadline on January 15, 2024.. A volunteer networking her could not find a foster and so she stepped up to save Cici's life! We did surgery to remove her mammary tumors and she is getting spayed shortly. Cici's foster loves her so much, she has adopted her! Yeah for Cici. she gets to have the best of the rest of her life.
Happens every day... A senior dog is owner surrendered at the shelter for no reason. Such was the case with Churro, previously Oscar from the Baldwin Park Shelter. He is an 11 year old dachshund mix who was brought in on February 10, 2024 severely matted. He was fearful and didn't want to be touched. Shelter staff sedated him to clip off his terrible coat and also gave him a dental. A wonderful woman and her son volunteered to foster this sweet dog. Our veterinarian said he needs further dental work to remove his canines. We are going to let him settle in and enjoy his forever home before we sedate him again. Until then, we are so excited to give him the best of the rest of his life. Of course, his foster fell in love and adopted him! Our sweet Churro passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 11, 2024.

This sweet little dachshund mix was brought to the Carson Shelter as as a "Stray" on October 13, 2023. Ruby, now Carat, was understandably nervous and scared at the shelter. Her behavior of being touch sensitive and growling at bigger dogs in a behavior assessment slapped her with a "rescue only" status. She required a rescue to help her or she would not get out. So we stepped in! Someone stepped up to adopt her and we were able to get her out on December 2, 2023. Once in a home, she was no longer fearful and loves the attention of her new human. We are so happy we could help Carat have the best of the rest of her life!

Caterpillar is the sweetest little dog! Known as Nala at the Downey shelter, she was owner surrendered on June 24, 2023. She is a kind, sweet, social little dog. She is 14 years old with some arthritis, which we are treating. Her previous owners said she was a 100% outside dog who didn't like a crate. She loves going into her crate to sleep and has made herself at home on her foster's couch. They also said she is destructive, and yet, she has not damaged anything in her foster home. She was with a temporary foster. Someone was interested in adopting her, but it did not work out. Then, we found a wonderful couple to foster her. They of course, fell in love and adopted her!
Is this not the cutest dog? 15 year old Chulo, now Creampuff, was brought in to the east valley shelter by someone who said the dog was a stray on November 23, 2022. A medical plea was issued as he is old with a heart murmur and a deformed hind leg. We had a foster who was trying to help save a little dog from the shelters. The first two dogs we chose we pulled by other rescues before we could get them. Third time is the charm, and so is creampuff! He was very nervous at first and unsure of his new home and his new people. But he has realized he has hit the jackpot and is very happy now. Happy life, little man!

The shelter was going to euthanize her due to her health as she was in liver failure and emaciated. However, Once she was out of the cage and free, she had plenty of pep and life! We saved her on April 18, 2023 and immediately took her to our veterinarian for an exam, chiropractic adjustment and a cold laser treatment to help any inflammation and pain. The veterinarian said she had liver toxicity and was not in liver failure. She was not a hospice dog! However she was only 50 pounds, now she is a normal weight! her foster and the foster's family are smitten with Coco and happy to give her the best of the rest of her life!
This poor dog! Carolina, AKA Angel from the Palmdale shelter, was in and out of the shelter system multiple times in her lifetime! She was first turned in as a stray in 2013 at 3 years of age. She was spayed and adopted only to be returned again in 2017. She was again back in 2018 and then adopted. she was again brought in as a stray in 2022, adopted and then again brought in as a stray in July of 2023. No one wanted this poor 13 year old dog. She is the friendliest dog. We had our eye on her but needed a foster to get her out. Luckily, she found her angel, and now angel, now Carolina will have a forever home. Meet Corona otherwise known as Ollie #a149585 from the city of Corona Animal Shelter. The shelter reached out to us and asked if we would help this senior dog. he came to the shelter as a stray on December 23, 2023. He had whipworm and Guardia! The shelter thought perhaps he could have cushings disease and were seeking immediate placement.. we posted him on Facebook and then somebody responded and said they would Foster him! he is the nicest old guy, very mellow, sweet with other dogs. He had a bad case of Guardia and whipworm but was resolved with medication. It was really funny today when we took him out for a walk. he just wanted to go go go and then he finally he stopped and turned around like he was saying I don't need to go anywhere I'm free . his foster family fell in love with him and he made himself right at home...so he was adopted!
Charlize, aka Maya, found herself at the Ramona Humane Society at no fault of her own. She was brought in as a stray on November 15, 2023. She is estimated to be 10 years old, has some difficulty walking, but has a great heart. She is a volunteer favorite. They were desperate to get her out of the shelter. We had someone in Ramona who adopted a dog from us before, and they were willing to foster for us this time around. Only, we didn't realize that the ramona Humane Society, was not in Ramona. With the help of networkers and volunteers we fund transport and on December 29, 2023 Charlize made it to her foster home. Of course her fosters fell in love with her and adopted we know she will be pampered and loved.
This poor dog! Carolina, AKA Angel from the Palmdale shelter was in and out of the shelter system multiple times in her lifetime! Luckily, she found her angel, and now angel, now Carolina will have a forever home
Compassion's previous owner died and the person's next of kin dumped her at a shelter. She was scared, did not trust people and had no socialization. We were contacted by a volunteer at the helter who asked if we could her. They didn't mention that she was scared, shy and didn't even want to walk on a leash. as if that matters. We said yes and with the help of volunteers had her transported to our sanctuary. We wanted to name this extremely frightened dog coward. But we found a better name to describe what she needs and not who she is at this time. Her new name is compassion. Her old name was 22-197. They guessed her age at 10, but she does not act old. She has medium energy, now loves going on walks and even loves to hunt little animals on the ground. However, when she went into heat she became aggressive with other dogs. She has since been spayed, but still get aggressive when dogs are in her space. So she needs to be an only dog. That doesn't work well at our sanctuary. She has to be kept separate. She hates it, and so do we. We are desperate to find her a loving safe home where she can be in foster or adopted....as long as she is loved. Our wishes were granted and compassion has been adopted! We are so excited for her to have a home of her own!
For over a week we were in communication with the Palmdale shetler about pulling angel, now Carolina. Days before the pull, a staff member asked if we could also take her roommate, Granny. Then the shelter said we only had until the end of the week to secure homes for both! We scrambled and we succeeded! Granny, now Caviar ( cavie for short) is a super nice, friendly 8 year old German shepherd that came to the shelter as as tray on June 15, 2023. By august 7, she was the longest resident and needed out! She is not our typical senior as she is under 10 and healthy! But, she is a love and I am sure her fosters will have a difficult time saying goodbye. Her fosters fell in love and have made Caviar a part of their family! Happy life, Caviar.
Breaks our hearts every time! Another senior dog owner surrendered for no good reason. This is Cannoli, aka Grace from the South LA shelter. She was dumped on June 29, 2022 and was scheduled for euthanasia on November 17, 2022. So we saved her. She is the sweetest, happiest dog. She loves being out of jail and gets along great with the pack. We are happy to give her the best of the rest of her life! We sent her to boarding when another foster dog was returned. The people loved her so much they decided to forever foster her and now adopt her!
We are heartbroken when one of our dogs passes on. We honor their life by saving another senior dog from the shelter. One of our fosters feels the same way....and that is how Courtney came to be saved! After Chloe left us, her owner found another black female senior pit bull that no one else was going to adopt. Courtney was brought to the North Central shelter on November 5, 2022 with a possible owner that never came for her. She sat and was overlooked for months. She participated in the K9 obedience training at the shelter where her current foster met her. We saved Courtney, formerly known as Mousey on may 4, 2023. On October 16, 2023 (of course) her foster adopted her and we are excited for the best of the rest of her life!
Can you imagine how scared this little 8 pound, 10 year old dog must have been when she was brought to the shelter as a stray on January 12, 2023. Lucky for her, we had a foster who could not wait to give a little dog a forever home! Maya, now chai, is so loved and well cared for! She had terrible teeth, so we had a dental and most of her teeth were rotten and removed. She is so much happier now! Of course her foster adopted her!
Chompers, formerly Tri-tip from the Lancaster shelter, is the sweetest dog! he came to the shelter as a stray on July 17, 2023. No one wanted this chunky friendly, sweet little dog. We found a wonderful person to adopt him just before he was set to be euthanized. We saved chompers on August 31, 2023.
Churchill, aka Big Boy from the North Central Shelter, was brought in as stray on March 18, 2022. He had inflammation around his anus. While the shelter did give him medication for his condition, they were not able to heal him. He had trouble sitting down and going to the bathroom. he was medically alerted and was in danger of being euthanized. We really wanted to help him, but we needed a foster. A wonderful person in Oxnard stepped up to care for Churchill in his time of need, and we rescued him on May 1, 2022. He is super lucky and has a most wonderful foster. Our amazing veterinarian was able to remove the fistulas and neuter him. he is so happy now. His fosters are giving him a forever home. We are so excited for him
Once again, Golden Years Dog Sanctuary stepped up to the plate when a dog was dumped in our canyon. A neighbor found Chicklet on March 20, 2023 in the middle of the street. We notified the shelter, checked for a chip, posted on many social media sites and on the bill board of our community. No one stepped up. Once her stray hold was up, we had several people wanting to adopt Chicklet. who could say no to this cute little face. Chicklet has an amazing home, and she is close by so we can still visit!
The number of dogs being put on a 72 hour notice for euthanasia is ridiculous! Tri was one such dog. We can only assume she was put on the list because she is old and has bad skin. However, she is full of life! Cheetah came to the Downey ACC shelter on November 7, 2022 as a stray with a microchip! Of course, no one came for her and she sat in her cage hoping for a miracle. She got it when we rescued her on January 9, 2023. She pulled on us all the way from the shelter gate to our car. She was so excited to leave and be in a home. Unfortunately, the foster home we had for her did not work out. She was boarded as we had no room for her at our sanctuary. A nice gentleman reached out looking for a calm dog to keep him company. He loved cheetah and adopted her on February 11, 2023! Cheetah was so happy when we brought her to her new home. She knew this would be her forever home!
It is so heartbreaking to see so many big senior dogs in the shelters, especially when we are full and have no room. Cheddy is a 13 year old German Shepherd who was slated for euthanasia simply for being old and having senior problems. Luckily, a super nice woman stepped up to foster Cheddy, aka heddy from the West Valley Shelter. We saved her on February 2, 2023. Her foster said Cheddy immediately felt at home and relaxed. She found the dog toy box and her bed. however, she prefers to sleep with foster mom on the people bed! Her new Foster says she's a lovely dog and we are so excited to give her the best of the rest of her life. The foster is so smitten with Cheddy that she adopted her!
This little dog is awesome! She was shy at first, but is learning that new people are nice. She a love bug once she trusts you. She is only 7 and not a dog we would normally pull. She was owner surrendered to the Downey Shelter on July 22, 2022. A week later she had a URI which turned into pneumonia. The shelter treated her and she did get better. The x-rays done for her pneumonia showed she also had spondylosis. The shelter was eager to get her out. Someone reached out to us and said there was a foster offer and would we help her? Of course we would! her foster and I were thinking of all sorts of "C" names while we waited for molly to be released. Once we met her, her foster mom said she should be called Chalula. Unfortunately, here foster returned her to our sanctuary for her own personal reasons. While we love having chalula here, we are happy to give her a forever home outside the sanctuary as well. Chalula hit the jackpot with an amazing family that adopted her on January 21, 2023
Cognac, Tigger from West LA shelter, was set to die on August 25, 2021. We asked for an extension to find a foster and was given a new deadline of September 9, 2021. At the last minute we found a wonderful couple to foster and Cognac was saved! At 95 pounds, he is a big boy. He is super sweet and mellow. He gets along great with other dogs. After looking for a forever home for the longest time, the fosters finally decided to foster fail. Welcome to the rest of your life cognac! Cognac, you get to stay right where you are!
Curtis, aka Pilot from South LA shelter, was incarcerated for almost a year! We were going to rescue Pilot in February, but were told he did not do well with small dogs. Boy where they wrong! Curtis is incredibly friendly and loves his adopted brother. We were so happy a foster stepped up and offered to give him the best of the rest of his life! Even better, the foster has now adopted Curtis. Way to go Curtis!
Capulet, aka Romeo, was brought to the Castaic ACC on February 21, 2023 as an owner surrender. He is only 5 years old and was very scared in a big cold kennel with all the big dogs. So naturally, he did not want to come out for his behavior assesment. The shetler deemed him rescue only for handling sensitivity. Luckily, a volunteer there had a family member interested in adopted him. They just needed a rescue to facilitate the pull. of course we were willing to step up to save a life! Capulet gained his freedom and his wonderful forever home on march 19, 2023.
Everyone was rooting for Blue to get out of the Downey shelter. He was brought in as an owner surrender on September 19, 2022. he is 15 years old, has sever arthritis and had a URI at the shelter. He was given a 72 hour notice. We rescued him the day he was to be euthanized, November 1, 2022. Blue, now Cole, landed a cushy foster home where he can spend the rest of his days on a soft bed. he has a new furry brother. The two get along just fine. After only a couple of weeks in foster, his foster family adopted him! happy life, Cole!
We love it when people aprroach us and ask us to save a dog they want to foster! such was the case for little Casanova. Quinn, as he was called at the Carson shelter arrived on June 22, 2022 as a possible hit by car stray dog. he was taken a to a private vet and then brought back to the shelter. No worse for wear, he was neutered, and then like all nice black dogs....sat. No one wanted him, except a foster! So he went to foster. The foster says he is loving, sweet and friendly. Turns out the foster family loves him and does not want to let him go. So they adopted him! Casanova hit the jackpot!
Claire found herself at the shelter after being left tied to one of the door on August 15, 2022. She is estimated to be nine years old. She has several medical issues, including being underweight, flea infested and having bad, itchy skin. The shelter was going to euthanize her as she seemed unadoptable and they need room. We could not let that happen! Claire, previously Betty, will want for nothing now and have the best of the rest of her life here! Claire is a very happy dog who loves attention. She gets along with the other dogs and enjoys her daily walks. Of course, her favorite things are eating and sleeping! We had her less than a month when one of our previous adopters asked to adopt Claire. Of course we said yes! Claire now has a big furry brother and a wonderful family!
This sweet puppy was dumped in our canyon. The shelters are so full we could not bring her in as a stray. We did notify the shelter, post everywhere and after 14 days, we were told we can adopt her out! Chanel is approximately 9-12 months old, has been vaccinated microchipped and spayed. She is very friendly and has basic obedience skills. Chanel found an amazing new home with a great couple who also have an 8 year old Staffordshire terrier mix. Her gotcha date is 9-21-2022
Caesar, aka Cane, from the South LA City Shelter, was brought in on November 24, 2021 as an owner surrender. He is 12 years old and the biggest love! He gets along great with other dogs, cats, people and children. I can't believe we have not found him a forever home yet! At the shelter he had tumors on his eye and foot. The shelter removed those tumors, but were worried they were mast cell tumors. The shelter gave him an exit date of January 4, 2022. We scrambled to find a foster, transport and set up a vet appointment. We rescued him on January 5, 2022. He is very happy in his foster home and gets along great with his new furry brother and his foster family. Further cytology confirmed his tumors are not mast cell and he is not terminal! he is available for adoption! Caesar found himself a great forever home and he even has a little furry brother!
We are so grateful to have people willing to foster these old little dogs! Chipmunk, aka Kenai from the Castaic Acc was dumped at the shelter on January 28, 2023 as an owner surrender. He walks very slowly and is skinny. Our wonderful foster saw him and reached out to us for assistance. Of course we said yes! Besides moving slowly, he has a heart murmur and dental disease. When we brought him to the vet we discovered he was in kidney failure. The foster stepped up to adopt him and give him the best life she could for whatever time he had left.
Cyrus, aka Bubba, was brought to the West Valley shelter on April 5, 2023 after his owner died. He has a large mass on his cheek along with a mass in his abdomen. He has dental disease and skin issues. What terrible shape he was in! The shelter sent him to a private vet to have one small mass on his elbow removed, but did not address the mass on his face! We rescued him on April 26, 2023, so we can give him the proper care he needs and love in a wonderful foster home! his tumor was removed and he is so happy now! his fosters decided to adopt him! We love happy endings!
Confusion, aka 24-00109 from the SEAACA shelter, was set to be euthanized on July 26, 2023. There were posts for this dog under the name Georgia saying she was a stray female housed by herself with kennel cough. Then there were posts about a male dog that was housed with other dogs with the same number. We had a foster and pulled her anyway. Turns out she is a girl and she does not have kennel cough! What she does have is an infected tooth. She had 10 teeth removed during her dental surgery. We also had her spayed! She is all better and was adopted by a wonderful couple who want to give her the best of the rest of her life!
Caboose has luck on her side! Susan went to the Lancaster shelter to save a 14 year old German shepherd. When she got there, the dog was already rescued. So she asked for any big dog over 10 years of age. There was one. She had no name and had just come to the shelter as a stray on September 13, 2022. She had a possible owner, but no one showed up. So we saved her! Caboose is Cucumber's doubleganger. Paul used to call Cucumber Steam engine, so Caboose was a fitting name for her twin. Caboose is very sweet and gets along with all the dogs. The first few nights she barked a lot, not wanting to be without us. She found her couch, gets along with the gang, and was at home here at the sanctuary. Then one of our previous adopters wanted to foster another dog! So he took Caboose and Cassidy, The two are so happy and have their forever home.
We heard that there was a lab mix at the Carson ACC that was at risk of being euthanized for being old and having a tumor. Princess, who was first at the shelter as a two month old puppy in October of 2009, was found as a stray in May, 2022. We just lost Crocodile and of course wanted to save another life. So we did. However, we missed the part where the mix of the dog is with a corgi. Cassidy is a super sweet loving 12 year old corgi-lab mix who wants nothing more than to be with you and give kisses. She is currently in foster with another GYDS alumni and having the time of her life! The foster decided to adopt both Cassidy and Caboose! We are so happy for both of them!
And just like that......Classy has a forever home! We knew Suzanna was looking for a calm pitbull to adopt. When we rescued Classy, we just knew they would be a perfect match. And they were! Classy likes her new little furry brother and has no idea how great her life is going to be. We are so happy for her. So happy, we choose to save this dog! Something just drew me to this dog. She was given a 72 hour notice on November 8. She came to the shelter on October 26, 2022 as a stray. They were going to kill her after only 13 days at the shelter! Why? she is a sweet, kind, friendly dog with excellent behavior notes. She has not medical issues, except that she is deaf. So why would the Palmdale ACC want to kill her? it still baffles us. However, we are so glad we saved her! She started her forever life with us on November 17, 2022. Classy is one of the kindest, sweetest dogs we have met.
Sometimes, it really take a village! We were asked on the day Chow Mein was going to be PTS, if we could save him. We had to become an adoption partner at Rancho Cucamonga, We needed the help of another rescue. Someone else was arranging transport. We were an adoption event. It was crazy. But in the end, we saved "oso." This 12 year old Chow-chow dog was owner surrendered to the shelter on September 13, 2022. He is a mess! He is super skinny and his hair is extremely matted. He was shy and scared at first. He did not want to walk on a leash at first. He quickly learned that he was safe and loved. Lucky for him, a wonderful person stepped up to foster him and give him a forever home! Happy life Chow Mein!
Camel was brought to the Palmdale shelter on February 16, 2022 as a stray dog possibly hit by a car! He had wounds on his face and front leg. No one claimed him. The shelter cared for his wounds, made him available for adoption and no one wanted him. He sat in a kennel and waited. This large dog did not have much room to move in those little kennels at the shelter. Unlike some dogs, he had no fanfare on social media. No pleas to save his life. He was not unnoticed to us and we were so glad to save him on April 13, 2022. Formerly known as Bear, he has such long legs and moves with such grace, the name Camel seemed so fitting. He is a wonderful dog. He gets along with everyone at the sanctuary, and did so right from day one. Camel found an amazing foster home where he room to explore. A house to live in and a wonderful human to adore him! He loves her right back! It didn't take long for the foster to say, he is going no where, how do I adopt him? And then it was done! Camel is adopted!
Sometimes rescue work gets crazy! We were told about a 12 year old female dog that needed to be saved by 5:00pm. It was 4:41pm. We emailed the shelter and asked for an extension. We were told another rescue was pulling the dog. They did not. The shelter gave the dog until 4:00pm the following day. It was not until about 2:30 pm that we were again contacted and asked to pick up the slack for this other rescue. The foster was on board, a transporter was arranged, and Amy from SEAACA, now Cherish, was saved at 3:59 pm on May 7, 2022. She is living the great life in foster where we are addressing her medical needs. Our foster says she is only fostering until we find her a forever home. Will that be you?
This adorable, bonded pair of dogs are available for adoption. Cheyenne is a 15-year-old spayed welsh terrier and her son Chandler, is a neutered 10-year-old terrier mix. They get along great with other small and medium sized dogs as well as cats. These two mellow dogs are looking for a forever home of their own. They are housebroken and are low energy. We saw a post about a 15 year old dog that was owner surrendered at the Palmdale Shelter on March 19, 2022. We contacted the shelter to see about rescuing her. When we spoke to them, they mentioned she was brought in with another dog and asked if we could take both. I said it was up to my foster….as if she would say no! And so, both Cheyenne and her son, Chandler, were saved on March22, 2022.
April 5, 2022 a nearly 15 year old German shepherd dog named Smokey was owner surrendered to the Baldwin Animal Care Center. Immediately there were emails and posts on social media to save this dog. We had just lost Comet, so we had a space open. However, we had already promised that space to a long term shelter resident. So we pleaded for a foster, and Dawn came knocking on our door! Gladly, we rescued Smokey, now Crusader, on April 17, 2022. He is in his forever home where he has a little brother and is spoiled and loved as every senior dog should be! His fosters loved him so much, they had to adopt him and call him theirs for as long as he will grace them with his presence!
Despite having a rough start to life, Chip is nothing but 60 pounds of chocolatey, smushy-faced sweetness. After living on the streets of Palmdale for nearly two years, Chip ended up at the Palmdale ACC where we rescued him December 31, 2020. He has been in a foster home the past year so he could decompress, learn to trust people, and start being the sweet, silly dog that he truly is! Although he's still timid with new people and in new situations, Chip has made incredible strides in building up his confidence and trust. His major milestones include playing with a toy for the first time, learning to ask for pets, and figuring out that the couch is a very comfy place to sleep. Chip is 4-5 years old, housetrained, knows his basic commands, and is learning to walk on-leash. He's a smart boy that learns quickly, and his perfect home is one that is patient and committed to helping him learn and come out of his shell even more. He has been around other dogs his size and does well; he has not been around very large or small dogs. He prefers women. He is not aggressive towards men, just scared. He is moderate to low energy and benefits from daily walks. If you're looking for an adorable, couch potato best friend with an underdog origin story, Chip may just be your guy.
Baxter is a super sweet dog that was owner surrendered to the Castaic ACC on February 13, 2022 for fighting with the other dog in the home. This was not Baxter's first time at the shelter. he was at the shelter in December of 2014 as a puppy only a couple of months old. He was adopted and now found himself back in a kennel. This time he wasn't cute and adorable and no one wanted him. He was made rescue only for the altercation at home. Someone reached out to us asking us to help and rescue him so they could adopt Baxter. Someone wanted Baxter! On April 29, 2022 he received his fairytale ending. He was saved and is living happily ever after in the Mojave desert at a great home with lots of room for him to run around.
It's the never ending story dog! She looks just like him! Meet Custard, formerly Lacey from SEAACA. We rescued her on October 22, 2021. She was owner surrendered to the shelter. They said she is ten years old; she sure doesn't act it! She is as playful as a pup. She gets along great with all the other dogs and is loving her life on the farm and at the sanctuary. We would love for her to have a home of her own. She has more energy than the rest of the senior dogs and could use a family to love and a yard in which to play. The nicest couple who also have a large property with plenty of room to roam adopted Custard. She is living the best life!
Caffeine, aka Meera 21-08889, was a stray at the SEAACA shelter. She is one of the lucky ones to make it out alive! We rescued her on July 2, 2021. She was brought into the shelter on April 26, 2021. She is currently in a short term foster situation; she needs her forever home now! Caffeine is the nicest, sweetest, friendliest dog! She is the only dog right now, but seems to get along with other dogs. She hit the jackpot with a wonderful young family with one other dog. Happy life Caffeine!
Another dog the DACC wanted to kill for a bite that was not viscous in nature. Kobe was owner surrendered on December 29, 2021 after a bite to the child in the home. They had no idea the shelter would euthanize him for a one-time behavior. He was good in playgroups at the shelter but still doomed to die unless a rescue stepped up to save him. So we did! A wonderful couple reached out to us and asked if we would pull this dog for them to adopt as a family pet with no children or other dogs in the house, as required by the DACC. Kobe is super happy in his new home. We pulled him from jail on February 24, 2022. Happy life!
Conrad, known as Donald from the Downey ACC, is a ten year old owner surrender. He is blind and was very confused and scared at the shelter. We were so grateful when someone stepped up to foster him so we could rescue him. Since his rescue on January 3, 2022, he has been neutered and had his eyes removed. Although there was some improvement with medicine when he was first free, our veterinarian said his eyes were painful and could not see anything anyway. He is recovering nicely and enjoying his new forever life. His fosters fell madly in love with him and adopted him on March 18, 2021.
We love repeat customers! Craig's new family is no stranger to us. They already adopted a cat and a dog from us. They also fostered a dog for us. So when Aimmee called and said she wanted to save Craig, who were we to say no? While he is not a senior, at only 1.5 years old, he was at risk of being euthanized at SEAACA for no apparent reason other than he needs training and discipline. As is always the case at SEAACA, he had to be out that day, so we did nit! Craig is a wonderful Belgian Malanios who will now get the training, care and love he needs. Happy life!
William was being completely overlooked by networkers and on social media. We could only find one post on him. He was brought to the Downey ACC shelter on October 24, 2021 as a stray dog. He is an approximately ten years old, probably a Rottweiler, shepherd mix who is very laid back. Cowabunga was the perfect name for him! He stroke gold with his foster. He has already been to the beach, gets lots of belly rubs and spends his nights watching TV. The life a senior dog should have: loved and appreciated! We rescued him on January 3, 2022 along with Conrad. What a great way to start the new year! Of course, his foster fell madly in love with him on day one. I knew he would be a foster fail. Before the end of the month, his foster adopted him! Happy life, Cowabunga!
Shay is a very friendly five year old Black Mouth Cur who got a bad rap and was in danger of being euthanized at the Castaic ACC. There was someone who wanted to adopt her, however, since she was rescue only, they needed an adoption partner to pull her. When asked, of course we stepped in. On January 13, 2022 Shay left the building and started the rest of her life in a loving home
Callie is a 12 year old gray Staffordshire terrier who found herself owner surrendered at the Lancaster ACC on May 11, 2021. She had tumors and while she was super sweet, she was overlooked due to her age, breed, and medical condition. The shelter removed her tumors and someone reached out to us asking if we would pull her for him to foster. Of course we would! On September 13, 2021 we rescued Callie, providing her with a wonderful foster parent who adores her. Callie's dreams came true as her foster has decided to adopt Callie and love her forever.
Ike is a ten year old terrier mix that was brought to the Castaic ACC on October 28, 2021 as a stray. His coat was matted, he was scared, and in need of a loving home. he was labeled "rescue only" by the shelter for being scared and having touch sensitivity. A wonderful person reached out and asked if could pull him for her to adopt. Of course, we said! and now, Ike has a loving home with another little senior dog and a cat!
She is ready! This awesome dog is so ready for her forever home! We had her tumor removed and are treating her skin condition. She gets along great with all the dogs, but, she also wants to chase the horses. That means we have to limit her time out on the farm. It would be more fair to her if she had her own home when she is not restricted in where she can roam. We became an adoption partner at SEAACA just so we could rescue Aurora, now Cauliflower. She was posted on Fb with a picture of a bloody foot. We could not get much information from the shelter other than she has tumors, so we decided we should rescue her. We did so to honor Carmello who we lost to cancer only days before. She is a great dog who had a giant tumor on her toe. The tumor has been removed and we are treating her skin condition. She is a very active, young nine year old dog. We hope to find her a forever home where she can spend the end of her days playing with dogs and getting all the love she deserves.
I can't believe this amazing dog is still waiting for his forever home! Cane was owner surrendered to Castaic ACC on December 21, 2020 after he and a chihuahua had a fight under the dinner table. He became rescue only because of this incident. We pulled him on January 25, 2021. He is actually super friendly with people and dogs. He must be adopted as an only dog. He is currently in foster and can't wait to have his own forever home with a loving family. Adopt Cane today!
Chloe, Mildred from the Baldwin Park ACC, is an 11 year old Staffordshire terrier. We received a call asking to rescue Chloe; the person calling said she would foster her. She had seen her at the shelter and knew she had to save this sweet little dog. It only took a few days before Chloe became a foster fail. She has the best life with her new mom and best furry friend.
Corbin, known as Kobe at the Castaic ACC, was owner surrendered at the age of 13 for being old. He had difficulty getting out of the kennel at the shelter, so they labeled him "Rescue only" even though he had a list of people who wanted to adopt him. So we rescued him, in May 2021, and adopted him out to the first person on the list. He now gets to spend the rest of his days with a wonderful family and two Bassett hounds.
While not a senior, Casper ( jasper from the Castiac ACC) was at risk and needed help. he was brought into the shelter as a stray in November 2020 as a 10 month old puppy. He had wounds on his neck and back and they suspected a possible coyote attack. So he went on a SIX MONTH quarantine; meaning no human interaction and no playtime in the yard. He sat in a kennel for six months. So when his time was up, he was stir crazy, fence agressive and no one wanted him. So we rescued him. In one night, he went from a fence agressive dog, to a loving overgrown puppy. We enjoyed the month we had him at the sanctuary. We found him the perfect home with a young couple with other dogs his age. He is enjoying the best life!
We love it when wonderful people approach us and say, "find us a dog to foster fail!" so, we did! Meet Fortuna, now Cricket, from the East Valley Shelter. She is a ten year old chihuahua mix that has a heart murmur, terrible teeth, and mammary tumors. We look forward to helping her and providing a loving home to give her the best of the rest of her life! With out any donations, we gladly still paid for cricket to have a dnetal including 10 teeth extracted, a spay, and her mammary tumors removed. She is healthy as she can be for a 10 year old dog is now a proud adopted member of her family.
Clue is such a wonderful dog! He is friendly with other dogs, sweet, loving and enjoys being with people. We saved him from the South Los Angeles Shelter in February 2021 after he sat at the shelter for months. He is healthy and happy and we would love to see him getting all the attention in a loving home
Cinderella is the perfect name for Daphne, a 12 year old stray dog who was caught and brought to the South LA shelter on August 9, 2021. She has a large hanging mass on her hind leg and the shelter wanted to euthanize her. We rescued her and campfire ( spike) the same day, August 27, 2021. Her foster mom loves her so much that she adopted her! We were able to do her surgery, removing not only the large tumor on her leg, but also a chain of mammary tumors. We also had her spayed. It was a big day and she recovered great! We love happy endings!
Campfire, previously known as Spike from South LA shelter, was set to be euthanized for being old ( 13 years old) and having tumors under his chin and various other places on his body. He is THE sweetest dog. We had to save him! He was brought to the shelter on August 18, 2021 as an owner surrender; we pulled him August 27, 2021. We had the dangling tumors removed and he is loving life at the sanctuary. A wonderful couple in our neighborhood wanted to save another dog and have another senior in their home to honor the senior dogs they recently lost. They took Campfire in as a foster and within 24 hours knew they wanted to give him a forever home. Happy life sweet campfire!
This dog was lucky! Jaime, a 9 year old beagle hound mix, came to the Castaic ACC on May 16, 2021 as an owner surrender after fighting with her housemate, a chihuahua. She was made rescue only and no other rescue would step up. Her deadline to get out of the shelter was moved back many times because the shelter staffed loved this dog and did not want to see her killed. Volunteers at the shelter found someone to adopt Jaime and we were able to pull her and get her adopted the same day. She is a very sweet dog and we wish the best for her!
Cooper already had a "c" name; of course we had to help him! Cooper is a 6 year old husky that was brought into the shelter on July 27,2021 as an owner surrender. Cooper had previously charged at dogs from his yard and charged a young child. While he is not aggressive and did not attack the dogs, he was deemed rescue only. We found a wonderful couple to adopt Cooper. They are getting training and working to help cooper be the best dog he can be while giving him the best life!
Lindsay is a one year old pug that came to the shelter on July 26, 2021 with a possible broken leg. She was slated to be PTS. Working with another rescue, on August 6, 2021, we were able to pull her and get her into a loving home where her medical issues are being treated and she can have the best of the rest of her life!
Bailey is another one year old dog that was slated to die at the shelter and no one wanted to see that. Working with another rescue, we again found a permanent home for bailey and we were able to assist in rescuing him! He was brought into the Agoura CC on June 21, 2021 and rescued on August 26, 2021
Collette has been adopted by her foster Family! Collette, is a 13 year old German Shepherd owner surrendered on May 26,2020. We adopted her May 31,2020 after a huge tumor was removed from her side. When we called to inquire about her, there was not a picture. It simply said black and tan 80 pound dog in the medical ward. We figured she was either rottweiler or shepherd. Either way, she needed out and we were the answer. Collette is an amazing dog. She is very sweet and friendly. She gets along with all the dogs. In the summer of 2020, we gave her to one of our neighbors to foster so we could pull another dog. She is so happy at our neighbor's house. Of course she became a foster fail!
We can't say no to saving a dog given a bad rap. The shelter's new policy is to label any dog that gets in a fight as a "rescue only" dog. This means their chance of making it out alive is diminished as the dog is not available to the public for adoption AND given a short time to be saved before he or she is killed. Hank makes the third dog we pulled from Castaic ACC that is not a dangerous or aggressive dog, but was labeled as such. Hank was brought to the shelter on November 20, 2020 as a stray dog that wondered onto someone's property and got into a fight with the resident dog. In playgroups both at the shelter and out, Hank was playful and not aggressive to any other dog. We pulled him when we found a great couple to welcome him into their home. Happy life little man!
Is she not the cutest little buddle of joy! We thought so. MJ was owner surrendered after fighting with her dog mate over food. The owner kept MJ on a chain and then threw food for the two dogs to eat. Of course there would be a fight! MJ, however, is a sweet dog and did well in playgroups at the shelter. She was also a "rescue only" dog. We pulled her the day she was to be killed without an adopter; not something we will do. However, a kind person offered to pay her bills until she was adopted. Of course, this kind person fell in love with MJ and adopted her from us.
Never give up! Cream cheese, known as Hosito at the Baldwin ACC, was labeled rescue only for being fearful. A wonderful gentleman called us and asked us to pull this cute 3 year old dog. We explained that we do not pull young dogs for our sanctuary and that the only way we could pull him was with a forever foster/adopter. The gentleman was not sure he wanted to adopt hosito or that he could foster him long term. However, since we were the only rescue, after contacting 50 rescues, that said yes, and he wanted to save hosito's life, he agreed to foster the dog. Well, as it turns out, Cream Cheese is a big love and the nice gentleman adopted him after fostering for only 2 days!
Staffordshire Terriers and pit bulls really do not deserve the bad rap they get. Take Hera: she is a sweet, playful, loving dog that can get along with other dogs. She was labeled "rescue only" after a fight with her housemate when the two dogs were left unattended in a hotel room. In order for us to save her, we had to find a home with no other dogs and dog-savvy people. She hit the jackpot when we found a wonderful family with a teenage boy. The two are inseparable!
Just before covid hit, Honey was owner surrendered for fighting with another dog. The volunteers at Castaic ACC found a great family to adopt her but needed a rescue to pull her. It was us, or death for Honey. We could not let this sweet dog be killed. She is now in a great home and loves life!
Things are not right at the shelters during Covid. Take sassy here: she is an 8 year old Doberman mix (labeled as a Rottweiler mix) who came to the shelter as an owner surrender for being fat. Granted, she does weigh 114 pounds and she should be at 75 pounds. She can walk, but doesn't choose to walk. Instead of doing any blood work or other medical care as the shelter should; they said they were going to kill her. So of course, we found a foster so we could save her. Ends up, Cash-e as her new little boy has named her, has a hypothyroid condition. She is now on medication and we are looking forward to watching her play and losing weight. Naturally, her foster family has fallen in love and adopted her. Happy life Cash-e.
Charger, known as Dodger at the Baldwin ACC was a volunteer and staff favorite. He was brought in as a stray on December 11, 2020. He was losing weight so they ran some tests. Turns out he has diabetes. We rescued him from the shelter On February 5th. He was going to a home as a foster to adopt dog. He is now getting the needed veterinarian care he needs and loves his foster home. It didn't take long for him to become a foster fail! Happy life, Dodger!
It is difficult to believe this gorgeous, healthy, and friendly, dog was going to pts because she was twelve years old and skinny. She didn't fit our criteria at all as she was adoptable and healthy! Yet, we could not leave the Palmdale shelter hoping someone would save her from death; so we adopted her! By the end of day one, she was already glued to Susan's side. Loyal and smart, she learned quickly to stay out of the arenas and away from the horses. She enjoys spending her days with her new best friend, Courage, hunting lizards. Luckily for the lizards, they are not very good at catching! She is currently in foster; we are hoping she will become another foster fail!
Duncan is a super sweet boxer who was not doing well at the shelter. GYDS pulled this dog and working with another rescue, found him a perfect home!
One year! This dog was in the shelter for one year! We had to save him! Chili is a ten year old staffashire terrier. He is loving, sweet and playful. He has spondylosis, but is being treated with medication to keep him comfortable. We found a wonderful gentleman to adopt him. He is now having the time of his life, as he should!
Celeste, formerly known as Luna, is a six year old female, altered, black Labrador retriever mix. She is incredibly friendly and smart! She is very obedient and loves to learn new tricks. As most dogs, she can be easily swayed with treats! For three years she lived with a family with children. She was brought into the shelter after an altercation with another dog. While she did do well in play groups at the shelter, she can be dog aggressive. She needs to be the only dog. She has been waiting for her forever home since October 2019. it is time for her to be out of a kennel and on someone's couch! Check out this awesome video made while she was in foster for a week during the covid19 outbreak Video!
Cowboy, known as Romeo at the Baldwin Park ACC was brought in as an owner surrender in December of 2019. He was overlooked! Cowboy is a very gentle, sweet, 10 year old Akita/cattledog mix. We pulled him in February 2020, to be fostered by one of our neighbors. Cowboy quickly won the heart of his foster and is now an official "foster fail" and in his forever home.
In the beginning of 2020, Golden Years Dog Sanctuary started our foster program. Our hope was to save more dogs by getting them into foster homes that would become their forever home. Clancy bear, in a 10 year old shepherd mix who was owner surrendered at the Palmdale ACC on February 21,2020. He was going to be killed at the shelter. We stepped in and had our first foster of 2020. He was later adopted by his foster, just as we planned!
Ricky is a 10 year old (looks older!) husky mix that was at the Downey ACC. One of our friends wanted to save a dog, so we pulled Ricky. He has a playmate that is also a senior and several cats that he lives with.
Bruce Wayne is an altered male German shepherd mix who first entered the shelter system in July 2019. He was adopted and returned for being dog aggressive. Yet, he is very sweet and is great with children and adults. He recognizes large dogs as his mates, but little dogs he sees as prey. He has to be an only dog. We pulled him when the volunteers found a wonderful gentleman to adopt him.
Some dogs get all the attention...but not Marla! Marla is an altered, female lab/pit mix that was not doing well at the shelter. She was at risk so we pulled her at the request of shelter volunteers to save her! She was quickly adopted in 2019.
Columbine found herself at SEAACA on April 7, 2022. It wasn't long before she was on their euthanasia list. We rescued her on April 23, 2022. She is a kind sweet dog who just needed a bed and a home. We got her a foster who was supposed to be temporary. However, they fell in love, and now they adopted her! She is a very sweet dogs who gets along well with people, dogs and cats! We are so happy she has a forever home!
