Chardonnay, previously Mia from the South LA shelter was owner surrendered on June 21, 2023. They said she was having trouble standing and walking so they wanted to euthanize her. They gave her a deadline of June 27, 2023. We asked for a one day extension, which they gave us. We only found out about her deadline on the day she was due to die. We scrambled to get a foster approved, and we did! Then at 8:00am the day we were set to pull her, the foster backed out. No other rescue had a foster. When I called the transporter to say we no longer needed his services to pick up the dog, he said no way! so guess who's fostering chardonnay? He says it's only a temporary foster but he's already in love with her and she is already feeling right at home. We do need a forever foster for this amazing dog.
Champagne, aka Casey from the Lancaster shetler, was owner surrendered at the age of 10 on July 11, 2023. She is an amazing healthy friendly energetic dog. She is loving life at the sanctuary, but we would love to get her into a forever home. She gets along with other dogs and is friendly with people. She likes to follow the horses being ridden and that is a concern, as we don't want anything to happen to her or a horse. She is available for foster or adoption but is welcome here as long as she needs a home.
For over a week we were in communication with the Palmdale shetler about pulling angel. Days before the pull, a staff member asked if we could also take her roommate, Granny. Then the shelter said we only had until the end of the week to secure homes for both! We scrambled and we succeeded! Granny, now Caviar ( cavie for short) is a super nice, friendly 8 year old German shepherd that came to the shelter as as tray on June 15, 2023. By august 7, she was the longest resident and needed out! She is not our typical senior as she is under 10 and healthy! But, she is a love and I am sure her fosters will have a difficult time saying goodbye. She is available for adoption.
Catya needs a forever foster home! She would do best in a home with a large yard. She has medium energy and would love to be able to run around. She is currently working with a trainer as she can be leash reactive and gets nervous in her current foster home. She is just too much dog for her current fosters. Here is her story: The shelters are so full that 72 hour notices are being given on nice adoptable dogs! Catya, called Kona from the Downey shelter, found herself incarcerated on December 8, 2022. She is a 10 year old Germán shepherd that is friendly with people and nervous with other dogs. She was given a 72 hour notice after only being in the shelter for two months. She was on our radar but we needed a foster to save her. Luckily someone reached out to us.
Some of these dogs just pull at your heartstrings. Carter, aka Domino from the Palmdale ACC, was one of those nice dogs scheduled to be euthanized by the shelter. We scrambled to find someone to foster to adopt Carter, before it was too late. Carter was actually first brought to the Castaic ACC on August 3, 2021 as a stray dog. He was later transferred to Palmdale in hopes of him getting adopted. However, he was losing weight and stressed at the shelter. No one wanted him. He lost 17 pounds in three months and despite pleas from our sanctuary and volunteers of the shelter, no additional medical care was given. Our vet was worried he may have diabetes, but turns out his blood work came back looking great. What he did have was Guardia. He was given the proper medicine and is now doing better and gaining weight! Carter gets along with large dogs, but should not be a in a home with small dogs or cats. He is the biggest love with people and a total goofball. We are hoping to find his forever home soon!
What can we do when the shelter wants to euthanize a dog for medical issues? why, we plea for a foster and don't stop until one is found! Such was the case for Vader, now chef, from the castaic acc. Chef was adopted from the shelter as a puppy and returned on July 31, 2023, as an 8 year old adult dog for no plausible reason. In the shelter, he was given 4 different antibiotics to help him with his URI and kennel cough. This gave him Gi issues so they wanted to PTS. Now, he is in a temporary foster home while he gets better. once healed, we will need a forever home for this amazing shepherd/hound mix of a dog!
Celsius is available for foster or adoption! She is an amazing, loving, friendly, medium energy dog! Celsius was brought to the SEACCA shelter on May 20, 2022; She was only given hours to live. She had kennel cough. which turned into pneumonia. They wanted her out of the shelter or they would kill her. We had space, but no way to get her out or over to our sanctuary. Thankfully, the rescue world is full of caring helpful people, and someone stepped up to transport her to us. She arrived on May 25, 2022 and we nursed her back to health. It was touch and go at first as she had quite the fever. Now, Celsius is a happy go-lucky dog. If it were not for her gray muzzle we would not believe she is ten years old! She loves to run around the farm chasing ravens and looking under logs an din gopher holes for lizards, gophers or anything that moves. She has quite a prey drive so she needs a home with no cats or horses. She is super loving and sweet with people. She loves the company of people! She was always great with our dog pack at the sanctuary. however, after her best friend fought with one other dog, she became a little dog selective. She can go to a home with other submissive dogs and she would be happy to be the only dog as well! We are hoping to find her a forever home where she can run and play and have the joy of her own family.
Compassion's previous owner died and the person's next of kin dumped her at a shelter. She was scared, did not trust people and had no socialization. We were contacted by a volunteer at the helter who asked if we could her. They didn't mention that she was scared, shy and didn't even want to walk on a leash. as if that matters. We said yes and with the help of volunteers had her transported to our sanctuary. We wanted to name this extremely frightened dog coward. But we found a better name to describe what she needs and not who she is at this time. Her new name is compassion. Her old name was 22-197. They guessed her age at 10, but she does not act old. She has medium energy, now loves going on walks and even loves to hunt little animals on the ground. However, when she went into heat she became aggressive with other dogs. She has since been spayed, but still get aggressive when dogs are in her space. So she needs to be an only dog. That doesn't work well at our sanctuary. She has to be kept separate. She hates it, and so do we. We are desparate to find her a loving safe home where she can be in foster or adopted....as long as she is loved. .
Chompers, formerly Tri-tip from the Lancaster shelter, is the sweetest dog! he came to the shelter as a stray on July 17, 2023. No one wanted this chunky friendly, sweet little dog. We found a wonderful person to adopt him just before he was set to be euthanized. We saved chompers on August 31, 2023.
Once again, Golden Years Dog Sanctuary stepped up to the plate when a dog was dumped in our canyon. A neighbor found Chicklet on March 20, 2023 in the middle of the street. We notified the shelter, checked for a chip, posted on many social media sites and on the bill board of our community. No one stepped up. Once her stray hold was up, we had several people wanting to adopt Chicklet. who could say no to this cute little face. Chicklet has an amazing home, and she is close by so we can still visit!
The number of dogs being put on a 72 hour notice for euthanasia is ridiculous! Tri was one such dog. We can only assume she was put on the list because she is old and has bad skin. However, she is full of life! Cheetah came to the Downey ACC shelter on November 7, 2022 as a stray with a microchip! Of course, no one came for her and she sat in her cage hoping for a miracle. She got it when we rescued her on January 9, 2023. She pulled on us all the way from the shelter gate to our car. She was so excited to leave and be in a home. Unfortunately, the foster home we had for her did not work out. She was boarded as we had no room for her at our sanctuary. A nice gentleman reached out looking for a calm dog to keep him company. He loved cheetah and adopted her on February 11, 2023! Cheetah was so happy when we brought her to her new home. She knew this would be her forever home!
It is so heartbreaking to see so many big senior dogs in the shelters, especially when we are full and have no room. Cheddy is a 13 year old German Shepherd who was slated for euthanasia simply for being old and having senior problems. Luckily, a super nice woman stepped up to foster Cheddy, aka heddy from the West Valley Shelter. We saved her on February 2, 2023. Her foster said Cheddy immediately felt at home and relaxed. She found the dog toy box and her bed. however, she prefers to sleep with foster mom on the people bed! Her new Foster says she's a lovely dog and we are so excited to give her the best of the rest of her life. The foster is so smitten with Cheddy that she adopted her!
This little dog is awesome! She was shy at first, but is learning that new people are nice. She a love bug once she trusts you. She is only 7 and not a dog we would normally pull. She was owner surrendered to the Downey Shelter on July 22, 2022. A week later she had a URI which turned into pneumonia. The shelter treated her and she did get better. The x-rays done for her pneumonia showed she also had spondylosis. The shelter was eager to get her out. Someone reached out to us and said there was a foster offer and would we help her? Of course we would! her foster and I were thinking of all sorts of "C" names while we waited for molly to be released. Once we met her, her foster mom said she should be called Chalula. Unfortunately, here foster returned her to our sanctuary for her own personal reasons. While we love having chalula here, we are happy to give her a forever home outside the sanctuary as well. Chalula hit the jackpot with an amazing family that adopted her on January 21, 2023
Cognac, Tigger from West LA shelter, was set to die on August 25, 2021. We asked for an extension to find a foster and was given a new deadline of September 9, 2021. At the last minute we found a wonderful couple to foster and Cognac was saved! At 95 pounds, he is a big boy. He is super sweet and mellow. He gets along great with other dogs. After looking for a forever home for the longest time, the fosters finally decided to foster fail. Welcome to the rest of your life cognac! Cognac, you get to stay right where you are!
Curtis, aka Pilot from South LA shelter, was incarcerated for almost a year! We were going to rescue Pilot in February, but were told he did not do well with small dogs. Boy where they wrong! Curtis is incredibly friendly and loves his adopted brother. We were so happy a foster stepped up and offered to give him the best of the rest of his life! Even better, the foster has now adopted Curtis. Way to go Curtis!
Capulet, aka Romeo, was brought to the Castaic ACC on February 21, 2023 as an owner surrender. He is only 5 years old and was very scared in a big cold kennel with all the big dogs. So naturally, he did not want to come out for his behavior assesment. The shetler deemed him rescue only for handling sensitivity. Luckily, a volunteer there had a family member interested in adopted him. They just needed a rescue to facilitate the pull. of course we were willing to step up to save a life! Capulet gained his freedom and his wonderful forever home on march 19, 2023.
Everyone was rooting for Blue to get out of the Downey shelter. He was brought in as an owner surrender on September 19, 2022. he is 15 years old, has sever arthritis and had a URI at the shelter. He was given a 72 hour notice. We rescued him the day he was to be euthanized, November 1, 2022. Blue, now Cole, landed a cushy foster home where he can spend the rest of his days on a soft bed. he has a new furry brother. The two get along just fine. After only a couple of weeks in foster, his foster family adopted him! happy life, Cole!
We love it when people aprroach us and ask us to save a dog they want to foster! such was the case for little Casanova. Quinn, as he was called at the Carson shelter arrived on June 22, 2022 as a possible hit by car stray dog. he was taken a to a private vet and then brought back to the shelter. No worse for wear, he was neutered, and then like all nice black dogs....sat. No one wanted him, except a foster! So he went to foster. The foster says he is loving, sweet and friendly. Turns out the foster family loves him and does not want to let him go. So they adopted him! Casanova hit the jackpot!
Claire found herself at the shelter after being left tied to one of the door on August 15, 2022. She is estimated to be nine years old. She has several medical issues, including being underweight, flea infested and having bad, itchy skin. The shelter was going to euthanize her as she seemed unadoptable and they need room. We could not let that happen! Claire, previously Betty, will want for nothing now and have the best of the rest of her life here! Claire is a very happy dog who loves attention. She gets along with the other dogs and enjoys her daily walks. Of course, her favorite things are eating and sleeping! We had her less than a month when one of our previous adopters asked to adopt Claire. Of course we said yes! Claire now has a big furry brother and a wonderful family!
This sweet puppy was dumped in our canyon. The shelters are so full we could not bring her in as a stray. We did notify the shelter, post everywhere and after 14 days, we were told we can adopt her out! Chanel is approximately 9-12 months old, has been vaccinated microchipped and spayed. She is very friendly and has basic obedience skills. Chanel found an amazing new home with a great couple who also have an 8 year old Staffordshire terrier mix. Her gotcha date is 9-21-2022
Caesar, aka Cane, from the South LA City Shelter, was brought in on November 24, 2021 as an owner surrender. He is 12 years old and the biggest love! He gets along great with other dogs, cats, people and children. I can't believe we have not found him a forever home yet! At the shelter he had tumors on his eye and foot. The shelter removed those tumors, but were worried they were mast cell tumors. The shelter gave him an exit date of January 4, 2022. We scrambled to find a foster, transport and set up a vet appointment. We rescued him on January 5, 2022. He is very happy in his foster home and gets along great with his new furry brother and his foster family. Further cytology confirmed his tumors are not mast cell and he is not terminal! he is available for adoption! Caesar found himself a great forever home and he even has a little furry brother!
We are so grateful to have people willing to foster these old little dogs! Chipmunk, aka Kenai from the Castaic Acc was dumped at the shelter on January 28, 2023 as an owner surrender. He walks very slowly and is skinny. Our wonderful foster saw him and reached out to us for assistance. Of course we said yes! Besides moving slowly, he has a heart murmur and dental disease. When we brought him to the vet we discovered he was in kidney failure. The foster stepped up to adopt him and give him the best life she could for whatever time he had left.
Cyrus, aka Bubba, was brought to the West Valley shelter on April 5, 2023 after his owner died. He has a large mass on his cheek along with a mass in his abdomen. He has dental disease and skin issues. What terrible shape he was in! The shelter sent him to a private vet to have one small mass on his elbow removed, but did not address the mass on his face! We rescued him on April 26, 2023, so we can give him the proper care he needs and love in a wonderful foster home! his tumor was removed and he is so happy now! his fosters decided to adopt him! We love happy endings!
Confusion, aka 24-00109 from the SEAACA shelter, was set to be euthanized on July 26, 2023. There were posts for this dog under the name Georgia saying she was a stray female housed by herself with kennel cough. Then there were posts about a male dog that was housed with other dogs with the same number. We had a foster and pulled her anyway. Turns out she is a girl and she does not have kennel cough! What she does have is an infected tooth. She had 10 teeth removed during her dental surgery. We also had her spayed! She is all better and was adopted by a wonderful couple who want to give her the best of the rest of her life!
And just like that......Classy has a forever home! We knew Suzanna was looking for a calm pitbull to adopt. When we rescued Classy, we just knew they would be a perfect match. And they were! Classy likes her new little furry brother and has no idea how great her life is going to be. We are so happy for her. So happy, we choose to save this dog! Something just drew me to this dog. She was given a 72 hour notice on November 8. She came to the shelter on October 26, 2022 as a stray. They were going to kill her after only 13 days at the shelter! Why? she is a sweet, kind, friendly dog with excellent behavior notes. She has not medical issues, except that she is deaf. So why would the Palmdale ACC want to kill her? it still baffles us. However, we are so glad we saved her! She started her forever life with us on November 17, 2022. Classy is one of the kindest, sweetest dogs we have met.
Sometimes, it really take a village! We were asked on the day Chow Mein was going to be PTS, if we could save him. We had to become an adoption partner at Rancho Cucamonga, We needed the help of another rescue. Someone else was arranging transport. We were an adoption event. It was crazy. But in the end, we saved "oso." This 12 year old Chow-chow dog was owner surrendered to the shelter on September 13, 2022. He is a mess! He is super skinny and his hair is extremely matted. He was shy and scared at first. He did not want to walk on a leash at first. He quickly learned that he was safe and loved. Lucky for him, a wonderful person stepped up to foster him and give him a forever home! Happy life Chow Mein!
Camel was brought to the Palmdale shelter on February 16, 2022 as a stray dog possibly hit by a car! He had wounds on his face and front leg. No one claimed him. The shelter cared for his wounds, made him available for adoption and no one wanted him. He sat in a kennel and waited. This large dog did not have much room to move in those little kennels at the shelter. Unlike some dogs, he had no fanfare on social media. No pleas to save his life. He was not unnoticed to us and we were so glad to save him on April 13, 2022. Formerly known as Bear, he has such long legs and moves with such grace, the name Camel seemed so fitting. He is a wonderful dog. He gets along with everyone at the sanctuary, and did so right from day one. Camel found an amazing foster home where he room to explore. A house to live in and a wonderful human to adore him! He loves her right back! It didn't take long for the foster to say, he is going no where, how do I adopt him? And then it was done! Camel is adopted!
Sometimes rescue work gets crazy! We were told about a 12 year old female dog that needed to be saved by 5:00pm. It was 4:41pm. We emailed the shelter and asked for an extension. We were told another rescue was pulling the dog. They did not. The shelter gave the dog until 4:00pm the following day. It was not until about 2:30 pm that we were again contacted and asked to pick up the slack for this other rescue. The foster was on board, a transporter was arranged, and Amy from SEAACA, now Cherish, was saved at 3:59 pm on May 7, 2022. She is living the great life in foster where we are addressing her medical needs. Our foster says she is only fostering until we find her a forever home. Will that be you?
This adorable, bonded pair of dogs are available for adoption. Cheyenne is a 15-year-old spayed welsh terrier and her son Chandler, is a neutered 10-year-old terrier mix. They get along great with other small and medium sized dogs as well as cats. These two mellow dogs are looking for a forever home of their own. They are housebroken and are low energy. We saw a post about a 15 year old dog that was owner surrendered at the Palmdale Shelter on March 19, 2022. We contacted the shelter to see about rescuing her. When we spoke to them, they mentioned she was brought in with another dog and asked if we could take both. I said it was up to my foster….as if she would say no! And so, both Cheyenne and her son, Chandler, were saved on March22, 2022.
April 5, 2022 a nearly 15 year old German shepherd dog named Smokey was owner surrendered to the Baldwin Animal Care Center. Immediately there were emails and posts on social media to save this dog. We had just lost Comet, so we had a space open. However, we had already promised that space to a long term shelter resident. So we pleaded for a foster, and Dawn came knocking on our door! Gladly, we rescued Smokey, now Crusader, on April 17, 2022. He is in his forever home where he has a little brother and is spoiled and loved as every senior dog should be! His fosters loved him so much, they had to adopt him and call him theirs for as long as he will grace them with his presence!
Despite having a rough start to life, Chip is nothing but 60 pounds of chocolatey, smushy-faced sweetness. After living on the streets of Palmdale for nearly two years, Chip ended up at the Palmdale ACC where we rescued him December 31, 2020. He has been in a foster home the past year so he could decompress, learn to trust people, and start being the sweet, silly dog that he truly is! Although he's still timid with new people and in new situations, Chip has made incredible strides in building up his confidence and trust. His major milestones include playing with a toy for the first time, learning to ask for pets, and figuring out that the couch is a very comfy place to sleep. Chip is 4-5 years old, housetrained, knows his basic commands, and is learning to walk on-leash. He's a smart boy that learns quickly, and his perfect home is one that is patient and committed to helping him learn and come out of his shell even more. He has been around other dogs his size and does well; he has not been around very large or small dogs. He prefers women. He is not aggressive towards men, just scared. He is moderate to low energy and benefits from daily walks. If you're looking for an adorable, couch potato best friend with an underdog origin story, Chip may just be your guy.
Baxter is a super sweet dog that was owner surrendered to the Castaic ACC on February 13, 2022 for fighting with the other dog in the home. This was not Baxter's first time at the shelter. he was at the shelter in December of 2014 as a puppy only a couple of months old. He was adopted and now found himself back in a kennel. This time he wasn't cute and adorable and no one wanted him. He was made rescue only for the altercation at home. Someone reached out to us asking us to help and rescue him so they could adopt Baxter. Someone wanted Baxter! On April 29, 2022 he received his fairytale ending. He was saved and is living happily ever after in the Mojave desert at a great home with lots of room for him to run around.
It's the never ending story dog! She looks just like him! Meet Custard, formerly Lacey from SEAACA. We rescued her on October 22, 2021. She was owner surrendered to the shelter. They said she is ten years old; she sure doesn't act it! She is as playful as a pup. She gets along great with all the other dogs and is loving her life on the farm and at the sanctuary. We would love for her to have a home of her own. She has more energy than the rest of the senior dogs and could use a family to love and a yard in which to play. The nicest couple who also have a large property with plenty of room to roam adopted Custard. She is living the best life!
Caffeine, aka Meera 21-08889, was a stray at the SEAACA shelter. She is one of the lucky ones to make it out alive! We rescued her on July 2, 2021. She was brought into the shelter on April 26, 2021. She is currently in a short term foster situation; she needs her forever home now! Caffeine is the nicest, sweetest, friendliest dog! She is the only dog right now, but seems to get along with other dogs. She hit the jackpot with a wonderful young family with one other dog. Happy life Caffeine!
Another dog the DACC wanted to kill for a bite that was not viscous in nature. Kobe was owner surrendered on December 29, 2021 after a bite to the child in the home. They had no idea the shelter would euthanize him for a one-time behavior. He was good in playgroups at the shelter but still doomed to die unless a rescue stepped up to save him. So we did! A wonderful couple reached out to us and asked if we would pull this dog for them to adopt as a family pet with no children or other dogs in the house, as required by the DACC. Kobe is super happy in his new home. We pulled him from jail on February 24, 2022. Happy life!
Conrad, known as Donald from the Downey ACC, is a ten year old owner surrender. He is blind and was very confused and scared at the shelter. We were so grateful when someone stepped up to foster him so we could rescue him. Since his rescue on January 3, 2022, he has been neutered and had his eyes removed. Although there was some improvement with medicine when he was first free, our veterinarian said his eyes were painful and could not see anything anyway. He is recovering nicely and enjoying his new forever life. His fosters fell madly in love with him and adopted him on March 18, 2011.
We love repeat customers! Craig's new family is no stranger to us. They already adopted a cat and a dog from us. They also fostered a dog for us. So when Aimmee called and said she wanted to save Craig, who were we to say no? While he is not a senior, at only 1.5 years old, he was at risk of being euthanized at SEAACA for no apparent reason other than he needs training and discipline. As is always the case at SEAACA, he had to be out that day, so we did nit! Craig is a wonderful Belgian Malanios who will now get the training, care and love he needs. Happy life!
William was being completely overlooked by networkers and on social media. We could only find one post on him. He was brought to the Downey ACC shelter on October 24, 2021 as a stray dog. He is an approximately ten years old, probably a Rottweiler, shepherd mix who is very laid back. Cowabunga was the perfect name for him! He stroke gold with his foster. He has already been to the beach, gets lots of belly rubs and spends his nights watching TV. The life a senior dog should have: loved and appreciated! We rescued him on January 3, 2022 along with Conrad. What a great way to start the new year! Of course, his foster fell madly in love with him on day one. I knew he would be a foster fail. Before the end of the month, his foster adopted him! Happy life, Cowabunga!
Shay is a very friendly five year old Black Mouth Cur who got a bad rap and was in danger of being euthanized at the Castaic ACC. There was someone who wanted to adopt her, however, since she was rescue only, they needed an adoption partner to pull her. When asked, of course we stepped in. On January 13, 2022 Shay left the building and started the rest of her life in a loving home
Callie is a 12 year old gray Staffordshire terrier who found herself owner surrendered at the Lancaster ACC on May 11, 2021. She had tumors and while she was super sweet, she was overlooked due to her age, breed, and medical condition. The shelter removed her tumors and someone reached out to us asking if we would pull her for him to foster. Of course we would! On September 13, 2021 we rescued Callie, providing her with a wonderful foster parent who adores her. Callie's dreams came true as her foster has decided to adopt Callie and love her forever.
Ike is a ten year old terrier mix that was brought to the Castaic ACC on October 28, 2021 as a stray. His coat was matted, he was scared, and in need of a loving home. he was labeled "rescue only" by the shelter for being scared and having touch sensitivity. A wonderful person reached out and asked if could pull him for her to adopt. Of course, we said! and now, Ike has a loving home with another little senior dog and a cat!
She is ready! This awesome dog is so ready for her forever home! We had her tumor removed and are treating her skin condition. She gets along great with all the dogs, but, she also wants to chase the horses. That means we have to limit her time out on the farm. It would be more fair to her if she had her own home when she is not restricted in where she can roam. We became an adoption partner at SEAACA just so we could rescue Aurora, now Cauliflower. She was posted on Fb with a picture of a bloody foot. We could not get much information from the shelter other than she has tumors, so we decided we should rescue her. We did so to honor Carmello who we lost to cancer only days before. She is a great dog who had a giant tumor on her toe. The tumor has been removed and we are treating her skin condition. She is a very active, young nine year old dog. We hope to find her a forever home where she can spend the end of her days playing with dogs and getting all the love she deserves.
I can't believe this amazing dog is still waiting for his forever home! Cane was owner surrendered to Castaic ACC on December 21, 2020 after he and a chihuahua had a fight under the dinner table. He became rescue only because of this incident. We pulled him on January 25, 2021. He is actually super friendly with people and dogs. He must be adopted as an only dog. He is currently in foster and can't wait to have his own forever home with a loving family. Adopt Cane today!
Chloe, Mildred from the Baldwin Park ACC, is an 11 year old Staffordshire terrier. We received a call asking to rescue Chloe; the person calling said she would foster her. She had seen her at the shelter and knew she had to save this sweet little dog. It only took a few days before Chloe became a foster fail. She has the best life with her new mom and best furry friend.
Corbin, known as Kobe at the Castaic ACC, was owner surrendered at the age of 13 for being old. He had difficulty getting out of the kennel at the shelter, so they labeled him "Rescue only" even though he had a list of people who wanted to adopt him. So we rescued him, in May 2021, and adopted him out to the first person on the list. He now gets to spend the rest of his days with a wonderful family and two Bassett hounds.
While not a senior, Casper ( jasper from the Castiac ACC) was at risk and needed help. he was brought into the shelter as a stray in November 2020 as a 10 month old puppy. He had wounds on his neck and back and they suspected a possible coyote attack. So he went on a SIX MONTH quarantine; meaning no human interaction and no playtime in the yard. He sat in a kennel for six months. So when his time was up, he was stir crazy, fence agressive and no one wanted him. So we rescued him. In one night, he went from a fence agressive dog, to a loving overgrown puppy. We enjoyed the month we had him at the sanctuary. We found him the perfect home with a young couple with other dogs his age. He is enjoying the best life!
We love it when wonderful people approach us and say, "find us a dog to foster fail!" so, we did! Meet Fortuna, now Cricket, from the East Valley Shelter. She is a ten year old chihuahua mix that has a heart murmur, terrible teeth, and mammary tumors. We look forward to helping her and providing a loving home to give her the best of the rest of her life! With out any donations, we gladly still paid for cricket to have a dnetal including 10 teeth extracted, a spay, and her mammary tumors removed. She is healthy as she can be for a 10 year old dog is now a proud adopted member of her family.
Clue is such a wonderful dog! He is friendly with other dogs, sweet, loving and enjoys being with people. We saved him from the South Los Angeles Shelter in February 2021 after he sat at the shelter for months. He is healthy and happy and we would love to see him getting all the attention in a loving home
Cinderella is the perfect name for Daphne, a 12 year old stray dog who was caught and brought to the South LA shelter on August 9, 2021. She has a large hanging mass on her hind leg and the shelter wanted to euthanize her. We rescued her and campfire ( spike) the same day, August 27, 2021. Her foster mom loves her so much that she adopted her! We were able to do her surgery, removing not only the large tumor on her leg, but also a chain of mammary tumors. We also had her spayed. It was a big day and she recovered great! We love happy endings!
Campfire, previously known as Spike from South LA shelter, was set to be euthanized for being old ( 13 years old) and having tumors under his chin and various other places on his body. He is THE sweetest dog. We had to save him! He was brought to the shelter on August 18, 2021 as an owner surrender; we pulled him August 27, 2021. We had the dangling tumors removed and he is loving life at the sanctuary. A wonderful couple in our neighborhood wanted to save another dog and have another senior in their home to honor the senior dogs they recently lost. They took Campfire in as a foster and within 24 hours knew they wanted to give him a forever home. Happy life sweet campfire!
This dog was lucky! Jaime, a 9 year old beagle hound mix, came to the Castaic ACC on May 16, 2021 as an owner surrender after fighting with her housemate, a chihuahua. She was made rescue only and no other rescue would step up. Her deadline to get out of the shelter was moved back many times because the shelter staffed loved this dog and did not want to see her killed. Volunteers at the shelter found someone to adopt Jaime and we were able to pull her and get her adopted the same day. She is a very sweet dog and we wish the best for her!
Cooper already had a "c" name; of course we had to help him! Cooper is a 6 year old husky that was brought into the shelter on July 27,2021 as an owner surrender. Cooper had previously charged at dogs from his yard and charged a young child. While he is not aggressive and did not attack the dogs, he was deemed rescue only. We found a wonderful couple to adopt Cooper. They are getting training and working to help cooper be the best dog he can be while giving him the best life!
Lindsay is a one year old pug that came to the shelter on July 26, 2021 with a possible broken leg. She was slated to be PTS. Working with another rescue, on August 6, 2021, we were able to pull her and get her into a loving home where her medical issues are being treated and she can have the best of the rest of her life!
Bailey is another one year old dog that was slated to die at the shelter and no one wanted to see that. Working with another rescue, we again found a permanent home for bailey and we were able to assist in rescuing him! He was brought into the Agoura CC on June 21, 2021 and rescued on August 26, 2021
Collette has been adopted by her foster Family! Collette, is a 13 year old German Shepherd owner surrendered on May 26,2020. We adopted her May 31,2020 after a huge tumor was removed from her side. When we called to inquire about her, there was not a picture. It simply said black and tan 80 pound dog in the medical ward. We figured she was either rottweiler or shepherd. Either way, she needed out and we were the answer. Collette is an amazing dog. She is very sweet and friendly. She gets along with all the dogs. In the summer of 2020, we gave her to one of our neighbors to foster so we could pull another dog. She is so happy at our neighbor's house. Of course she became a foster fail!
We can't say no to saving a dog given a bad rap. The shelter's new policy is to label any dog that gets in a fight as a "rescue only" dog. This means their chance of making it out alive is diminished as the dog is not available to the public for adoption AND given a short time to be saved before he or she is killed. Hank makes the third dog we pulled from Castaic ACC that is not a dangerous or aggressive dog, but was labeled as such. Hank was brought to the shelter on November 20, 2020 as a stray dog that wondered onto someone's property and got into a fight with the resident dog. In playgroups both at the shelter and out, Hank was playful and not aggressive to any other dog. We pulled him when we found a great couple to welcome him into their home. Happy life little man!
Is she not the cutest little buddle of joy! We thought so. MJ was owner surrendered after fighting with her dog mate over food. The owner kept MJ on a chain and then threw food for the two dogs to eat. Of course there would be a fight! MJ, however, is a sweet dog and did well in playgroups at the shelter. She was also a "rescue only" dog. We pulled her the day she was to be killed without an adopter; not something we will do. However, a kind person offered to pay her bills until she was adopted. Of course, this kind person fell in love with MJ and adopted her from us.
Never give up! Cream cheese, known as Hosito at the Baldwin ACC, was labeled rescue only for being fearful. A wonderful gentleman called us and asked us to pull this cute 3 year old dog. We explained that we do not pull young dogs for our sanctuary and that the only way we could pull him was with a forever foster/adopter. The gentleman was not sure he wanted to adopt hosito or that he could foster him long term. However, since we were the only rescue, after contacting 50 rescues, that said yes, and he wanted to save hosito's life, he agreed to foster the dog. Well, as it turns out, Cream Cheese is a big love and the nice gentleman adopted him after fostering for only 2 days!
Staffordshire Terriers and pit bulls really do not deserve the bad rap they get. Take Hera: she is a sweet, playful, loving dog that can get along with other dogs. She was labeled "rescue only" after a fight with her housemate when the two dogs were left unattended in a hotel room. In order for us to save her, we had to find a home with no other dogs and dog-savvy people. She hit the jackpot when we found a wonderful family with a teenage boy. The two are inseparable!
Just before covid hit, Honey was owner surrendered for fighting with another dog. The volunteers at Castaic ACC found a great family to adopt her but needed a rescue to pull her. It was us, or death for Honey. We could not let this sweet dog be killed. She is now in a great home and loves life!
Things are not right at the shelters during Covid. Take sassy here: she is an 8 year old Doberman mix (labeled as a Rottweiler mix) who came to the shelter as an owner surrender for being fat. Granted, she does weigh 114 pounds and she should be at 75 pounds. She can walk, but doesn't choose to walk. Instead of doing any blood work or other medical care as the shelter should; they said they were going to kill her. So of course, we found a foster so we could save her. Ends up, Cash-e as her new little boy has named her, has a hypothyroid condition. She is now on medication and we are looking forward to watching her play and losing weight. Naturally, her foster family has fallen in love and adopted her. Happy life Cash-e.
Charger, known as Dodger at the Baldwin ACC was a volunteer and staff favorite. He was brought in as a stray on December 11, 2020. He was losing weight so they ran some tests. Turns out he has diabetes. We rescued him from the shelter On February 5th. He was going to a home as a foster to adopt dog. He is now getting the needed veterinarian care he needs and loves his foster home. It didn't take long for him to become a foster fail! Happy life, Dodger!
It is difficult to believe this gorgeous, healthy, and friendly, dog was going to pts because she was twelve years old and skinny. She didn't fit our criteria at all as she was adoptable and healthy! Yet, we could not leave the Palmdale shelter hoping someone would save her from death; so we adopted her! By the end of day one, she was already glued to Susan's side. Loyal and smart, she learned quickly to stay out of the arenas and away from the horses. She enjoys spending her days with her new best friend, Courage, hunting lizards. Luckily for the lizards, they are not very good at catching! She is currently in foster; we are hoping she will become another foster fail!
Duncan is a super sweet boxer who was not doing well at the shelter. GYDS pulled this dog and working with another rescue, found him a perfect home!
One year! This dog was in the shelter for one year! We had to save him! Chili is a ten year old staffashire terrier. He is loving, sweet and playful. He has spondylosis, but is being treated with medication to keep him comfortable. We found a wonderful gentleman to adopt him. He is now having the time of his life, as he should!
Celeste, formerly known as Luna, is a six year old female, altered, black Labrador retriever mix. She is incredibly friendly and smart! She is very obedient and loves to learn new tricks. As most dogs, she can be easily swayed with treats! For three years she lived with a family with children. She was brought into the shelter after an altercation with another dog. While she did do well in play groups at the shelter, she can be dog aggressive. She needs to be the only dog. She has been waiting for her forever home since October 2019. it is time for her to be out of a kennel and on someone's couch! Check out this awesome video made while she was in foster for a week during the covid19 outbreak Video!
Cowboy, known as Romeo at the Baldwin Park ACC was brought in as an owner surrender in December of 2019. He was overlooked! Cowboy is a very gentle, sweet, 10 year old Akita/cattledog mix. We pulled him in February 2020, to be fostered by one of our neighbors. Cowboy quickly won the heart of his foster and is now an official "foster fail" and in his forever home.
In the beginning of 2020, Golden Years Dog Sanctuary started our foster program. Our hope was to save more dogs by getting them into foster homes that would become their forever home. Clancy bear, in a 10 year old shepherd mix who was owner surrendered at the Palmdale ACC on February 21,2020. He was going to be killed at the shelter. We stepped in and had our first foster of 2020. He was later adopted by his foster, just as we planned!
Ricky is a 10 year old (looks older!) husky mix that was at the Downey ACC. One of our friends wanted to save a dog, so we pulled Ricky. He has a playmate that is also a senior and several cats that he lives with.
Bruce Wayne is an altered male German shepherd mix who first entered the shelter system in July 2019. He was adopted and returned for being dog aggressive. Yet, he is very sweet and is great with children and adults. He recognizes large dogs as his mates, but little dogs he sees as prey. He has to be an only dog. We pulled him when the volunteers found a wonderful gentleman to adopt him.
Some dogs get all the attention...but not Marla! Marla is an altered, female lab/pit mix that was not doing well at the shelter. She was at risk so we pulled her at the request of shelter volunteers to save her! She was quickly adopted in 2019.
Columbine found herself at SEAACA on April 7, 2022. It wasn't long before she was on their euthanasia list. We rescued her on April 23, 2022. She is a kind sweet dog who just needed a bed and a home. We got her a foster who was supposed to be temporary. However, they fell in love, and now they adopted her! She is a very sweet dogs who gets along well with people, dogs and cats! We are so happy she has a forever home!
